Lexie

*** Three months later: After spending every weekend with Danny at hotels for months on end, I still avoided the one thing I dreaded: confronting Maverick. Acting like everything was fine is beginning to feel harder and harder.

Here I am now, planning in my head what I will say. "Danny, I'm scared."

He squeezed my hand and kissed it. "I know."

I looked at the apartment complex and sighed. "I wish you could come with me."

"Me too, but... you know. We shouldn't do that."

"I know."

"You're strong, baby. You can get through this."

Nodding, I got out of Danny's Audi and went to Maverick's apartment, my heart racing so fast that I could hardly hear.

I knocked on the door and he opened it, smiling. "Hi."

"Hey."

"Where were you? I tried calling because I kind of figured my wife would like to spend some time with me since I've been gone for four days."

"I was with Callie."

"Oh, okay. Well, I missed you."

"Same."

"Is everything okay?"

"Who was that blonde you were hanging out when you guys were in Anaheim?"

"What are you talking about?"

I handed him my phone and showed him the TikTok that I came across earlier. "Who's this?"

"Do you mean the game three months ago when we played in Philadelphia?"

"You lied to me!"

"If I did anything to you, I would have confessed but I did nothing wrong. There were some girls we ran into and being nice, the boys and I bought them drinks. Period."

"Bullshit!"

"You are my wife, Lexie. Do you really think that I would lie to you?"

"And the fact that you never told me? What the fuck, Mav? You PROMISED you would never cheat on me. What did I do to deserve this?"

"I made one mistake once but considering what you did to me with Cam and JJ, I was pretty hurt and I hated myself afterwards but other than that, I have never cheated on you. I have told you that countless times."

"That is no excuse. At this point, she can have this." I slid the ring off my finger and put it in his hand. "We're done."

Maverick scowled. "What are you talking about?"

"That bitch can have you, we are done."

"What girl?"

"One of them. I'm sure you keep in contact with them."

"I spoke to them briefly, but I don't even remember their names."

I knew he was hurt by the look on his face, but I refused to give in. "We could have been together, Mav. You were the man of my dreams, but you chose to cheat on me."

"I never cheated on you! What don't you understand?"

"You sure as hell messed up, Maverick. I'm going home."

"What?"

"I refuse to be around you."

"So, you're just leaving Texas?"

"I can't be around you anymore."

"But I did nothing wrong!"

"All you are doing is lying to yourself, Mav. I loved you."

I turned around and slammed the door shut. It slightly hurt, but I did have some pretty good news at this point: now that things are fully over with Maverick, I can have Danny all to myself.
