I was beyond shocked hearing her not only accuse me of cheating but also wanting to end our marriage. Shortly after Lexie left, I received a phone call from Derek. "Hey, have you seen Lexie?"

Derek could sense that I was upset due to not responding. "You okay, man?"

"Honestly, no."

"What happened?"

"She accused me of cheating and wants to end our marriage."

"So, she didn't tell you then?"

"Tell me what?"

I could sense the anger in Derek's voice before he responded. "Your father."

"What about him?"

"They've been seeing each other."

"WHAT? When did you find this out?"

"She told me last night."

"Why the fuck didn't you tell me last night then?"

"I figured that she would tell you."

"No, she didn't. Thanks for telling me."

"Of course."

I hung up, feeling beyond shocked and hurt. I was already upset hearing her accuse me something that I never did, but she has kept a secret from me for a few months.

Around 2, I heard a knock on my door, and I was surprised to see Jayden. "Hey."

"Hi."

"What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to see you."

"We haven't spoken in months."

"Whose fault is that?"

"Jay, not now..."

"Can I come in?"

"I guess."

"Are you okay?"

I grabbed another beer out of the fridge and shook my head. "Not really."

Jayden sat next to me on the couch and scowled. "What's going on?"

"Lexie just told me that not only does she want to end our marriage, but she also accused me of cheating, and I just found out that she has been sleeping with my father."

"She's been what?!"

"Yep."

"For how long?"

"I have no idea."

"I am so sorry to hear that, Mav."

"It's fine."

"No, it's not fine."

For the first time in a very long time, I broke down into tears. "I never did anything to deserve this."

Jayden put her arms around me and sighed. "Everything will be okay, Mav. I am here for you."

"I just can't believe it."

"Well, I do have a small surprise."

"What?"

"I bought a house."

"Why?"

"To be closer to you. Look, I know how things ended with us and it really hurt when you told me that night that you wanted nothing romantic with me, but I couldn't stay mad at you forever. We've been best friends for so long, I just wasn't sure if you'd allow me to come back into your life."

"I can't get into any relationship right now, Jayden."

She shook her head. "I didn't ask if you wanted that. I just want to be here for you. Like I used to be. If that's alright. Look at me as your emotional support right now, and we can just see how things go."

"I'd like that."

"Good. But I'll head out now, I am sure you want some sleep."

"I have too much on my mind to sleep."

"I can stay up with you."

"You don't have to."

"Nonsense. I don't have work tomorrow and I'd rather spend some time with you instead of being bored all by myself at home."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, absolutely."

"Thanks, Jay."

Although I wanted nothing to do with any type of relationship after tonight, I could use Jayden. She was always someone who I vented to, and she knew me better than anyone.
