The moment Maverick came inside, I couldn't tell if he was sad or angry. "You, okay?"

"I'm fine."

"No, you aren't. Talk to me, babe."

"I... I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"Not believing you."

"It's okay."

"No, it's not."

"I promise it is okay."

"If you say so, Mya."

"Look, I can understand why you don't believe me because, well... we both know why but I promised you that it wouldn't happen again, remember?"

"Callie wanted me to give you this."

He reached in his pocket and handed me the engagement ring. "Where did she find it?"

"In the bathroom."

"See? I didn't lie to you."

He nodded. "I know."

"I can't wait to marry you, Mav."

"Someday, Mya."

"Oh, I know."

"It's just a matter of when."

"I hope soon."

"You'll have to find out."

"I know."

"I have another surprise for you by the way."

"Really? What's that?"

He grabbed a bag out of the closet and handed it to me. "Happy birthday, babe."

"Oh my god, you didn't!"

"You've always been my number one fan."

"Thank you so much! When did you get this?"

"I've had it for a few months, but I figured giving you a game worn one would be better."

"It is! Thanks babe!"

"Of course."

"I'm going to be sad when you leave."

"I know, but it will only be a few games a week."

"Where are you guys going first?"

"New York."

"That's so far away."

"I know, but I'm sure Callie will keep you occupied."

"Are you sure I can't go with you?"

"Maybe I can make some exceptions. I'd have to talk to my coach."

"Oh Mav, please. You're 27 years old for god's sake, why couldn't I? I'm sure some of your other teammates have their girlfriends or wives go."

"Well, not really but I can ask if you really want me to."

"Of course, I do!"

"Alright. I'll ask him."

"Yay! Thanks babe!"

After a few hours, I hated hearing the news. "He really said no?"

"I listen to what the coach says, Mya. It's only a few days."

"Well, it was worth asking I suppose. I will definitely miss you though."

"I know. But I'll be home before you know it."
