Maverick
Although we had planned on getting married by next year, Lexie had insisted on getting married sooner rather than later and this time as I got ready, I felt much different than I did the first time.
"You look good, man."
I looked at Derek and nodded. "Thanks."
"You look a lot happier than you did with Lexie."
"Yeah, I just... I don't know, Lexie makes me happier and has become much more supportive since she had Andrew."
"How's he doing?"
"Great."
"That's good. I know I haven't seen him much, but I've been busy with work."
"I get it, dude. It's all good."
"You look good, Mav."
I saw my father enter the dressing room and placed his hand on my shoulder. "You excited?"
"Very."
"Good."
"I want you to be happy, Maverick and I hope that Lexie is the person to make you happy."
"She definitely is."
"Good, I am glad to hear that."
"Just take care of her, alright?" Lexie's father entered the room and looked at me. "I don't need her heart broken and I don't need to see her son live without his father."
"I am not going anywhere, I promise.
Lexie
"Are you nervous?"
"Not at all."
Callie smiled. "Well, you look great."
"You think so?"
"Absolutely!"
"Thanks, Callie and I want to thank you for giving me another chance."
"As long as you don't hurt my brother, we'll have no problems."
If only she knew what Danny and I have been doing behind the scenes for the last two and a half months. "Of course."
"You seem to make him happy which is all that matters to me. But you should get going, your father is outside waiting for you."
Nodding, I followed Callie out of the dressing room and found my dad. "You look beautiful, Lexie."
"Thanks, dad."
"Are you ready?"
"I am."
*** Fifteen minutes later: I felt my heart pound out of my chest as my father walked me down the aisle and it seemed like everything stood still the moment my eyes met Danny's.
His dark grey suit fit him beyond perfectly and he was surely the man that I wanted regardless of what I have to do to have him all to myself.
Maverick
"You look beautiful, baby."
"Thanks."
After reading through our personalized vows, it was finally the moment to officially kiss my wife. Everyone clapped as we left the alter and headed to the reception.
Shortly after, Callie instantly approached Lexie and hugged her. "Congrats you guys!"
"Thanks, sis."
"I am so happy for you, Mav."
"I am as well."
Lexie's father hugged me and smiled. "Congratulations, Maverick. The only thing I ask is for you to take care of my daughter."
"I promise."
My mother joined us, Andrew in my mother's arms and hugged me. "Congratulations, Maverick."
"Where's dad?"
"I don't know. He said he would be right back, but he didn't return."
"I can look for him if you want."
My mother looked at Lexie skeptically. "No, I can do that."
"I don't mind."
She shook her head. "He is my husband, I'll take care of it."
I sensed a slight look of disappointment on Lexie's face, and I think that Callie had noticed it as well by the look on her face after she glanced at Lexie.
