Chapter 28

Maverick

After several months of waiting, it finally came to an end when Lexie woke me up in the middle of the night. I knew she was scared the whole entire drive to the hospital, but I had faith in her that she was strong and could get through what was about to happen.

But after many hours, my life changed the moment Lexie held my son in her arms. "Do you want to hold him?"

"Of course."

I called Callie and she was beyond excited, arriving shortly after the phone call to see Andrew. "I am sure that Drake will soon look forward to meeting his cousin."

After Lexie spent the night at the hospital, we were able to go back home. "Thank you."

"For?"

"Giving me a second chance."

"You're welcome."

"I just feel like I never deserved a second chance, especially with everything that happened."

I looked at Lexie and lightly stroked her face. "We all deserve second chances."

"How did Callie react when you originally told her that we were getting back together?"

"Initially, pretty pissed off but I think that she has gotten to the point to understand me now."

"I just don't want to ruin your relationship with her."

"You aren't ruining it at all. Especially now."

"Promise?"

"Yes."

"I know that you wanted to wait, but I don't want to wait to get married, Mav."

"Have you and Callie discussed that?"

Lexie nodded. "We have several things that we've put together, and I figured that maybe you would want to be a part of?"

"Of course. But my parents want to have us over for dinner as a celebration, so you should get ready."

"I thought we would spend some alone time tonight."

"It's just for a few hours, Lex. It won't kill you."

She rolled her eyes. "Fine."

After we arrived at my parents, Lexie seemed like she was in a bad mood for whatever reason. "So, congratulations!"

Lexie looked at Callie and nodded. "Thanks."

"Is everything alright?"

"I..."

"Dinner's ready."

Once we all grabbed food, we went back to the kitchen table and all I could hope for was that Lexie would at least act like she was in a good mood, but it felt like right now, that was just fighting a losing battle.

Throughout dinner, I couldn't help but to look at Danny. I was thankful that no one noticed, but I never really thought a man his age could be so handsome.

Despite meeting him several times, I never paid attention until now. "Lexie?"

"What?"

"Did you hear me?"

"No, sorry."

"Are you ready to head out? It's getting late."

"Yeah, sure."

After we left, I sent Selena a text. Mav's dad is so handsome.

Selena: What?

Lexie: We went to his house for dinner and oh my god... I should have noticed sooner.

Selena: What the hell are you thinking? You should NOT think about him like that.

Lexie: When I see something that I like, I go for it :)

Selena: How would Maverick feel?

Lexie: I mean, he wouldn't be happy, but I can't help myself.

Selena: That could ruin your relationship with Maverick if he ever found out.

Lexie: Would you tell him?

Selena: No, but you need to stop thinking about his father. Period.

Lexie: I am going to message him.

Selena: What? DON'T!

Lexie: Too late :) talk tomorrow, Selena.

I scrolled through Facebook until I found his name and sent him a direct message: Hi, Mr. Esposito

Five minutes later, I received a notification, beyond shocked that he actually answered. Hello, Lexie. How are you?

Lexie: Great now!

Danny: Why is that?

Lexie: I couldn't help myself tonight, I really want you.

Danny: Excuse me?

Lexie: You are very handsome.

Danny: I appreciate the compliment, Lexie.

Danny: But you really should not say that.

Lexie: Why?

Lexie: No one has to know.

Danny: You know that I am a lot older than you.

Lexie: And?

Danny: I also have a wife and my own kids, especially considering that you are marrying my son.

Lexie: Not if we get together :)

Danny: Goodnight, Lexie.

"Babe, is everything okay?"

I looked at Maverick and put my phone on the nightstand. "I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, I'm sure."

"Alright, well I am glad you said yes."

"I'd be crazy to say no to you."

"I want this wedding as soon as possible."

"It takes a while, but I am sure a year is plenty."

"I like the sound of that."

"Me too."

After he fell asleep, I called Selena. "Why would you talk about Danny like that?"

"I can't help it, Selena. He is so hot."

"I do not condone this behavior of yours. You have a child with Maverick, and you should focus on your own family, not sabotaging Danny's."

I knew that Selena was right, but I loved the fact that he was older than me and I truly wanted him.

"How would I be sabotaging it?"

"By flirting with Maverick's FATHER!"

"Can't stop me."

"Well, no, but I don't think that you should. You're playing with fire, Lexie."

"We'll see."

"If you ruin your relationship with Maverick, that is all on you. I don't think you should be even considering this, but I can't tell you what to do. You'll figure things out."

"I know, goodnight, Selena."

I got off the phone and went downstairs, pouring myself a glass of wine before going to the bathroom and sending an intimate photo to Danny. Maybe this will change his mind.
