*** Four months later:

Maverick

I could tell Callie was pissed when I told her that Lexie and I were working things out. "Why would you give that bitch another chance? You said you never would do it."

"I am giving her the benefit of the doubt."

"So, you just chose to ask her to be your girlfriend?"

"Not just that." I pulled the small box out of my bag and handed it to her. "This as well."

"Mav... I think you are making a huge mistake."

"Am I?"

"I just don't want that bitch to hurt you."

"I am not going to allow that. If she messes up and goes back to her old habits, I am going to leave her."

"Promise?"

"Yes."

"But what about Mya?"

"What about her?"

"Have you guys spoken?"

"I deleted her number, Callie. I have no interest in speaking to her."

"But she was your wife."

"Exactly. Was. I will be a father in four months, I am ready to settle down with someone and I am hoping that she is that person."

"I just don't want to see you getting hurt, Mav. I want what's best for you."

"I know, and I appreciate that very much."

"Are you positive that this is what you want?"

"Yes, I am positive."

"When do you plan on doing it?"

"Tonight."

"I hope things work for you, Mav."

"Thanks, Callie."

I was never one to be nervous, but I knew that with the arrival of our son in a few months, this was the right time to take the next step, fully committing myself to her, hoping for the best.

Lexie

Around 6, I received a phone call from Maverick while I was at Selena's, requesting for me to go to his house. "Did he say why?"

"No."

"Hmm, well let me know later what happens!"

"I will."

I left Selena's and drove to Maverick's, wondering why he wanted me to be at his house so urgently.

When I arrived, I noticed him standing in the doorway. "Hey, beautiful."

"Hi."

"So, I have a small surprise for you."

"What would that be?"

"Follow me to the bedroom."

"Okay."

He took my hand and led me up the stairs before making me place my hands over my eyes. "Just a few more steps."

"Mav, what's going on?"

"Open your eyes and you will see."

I was stunned to see the candlelit bedroom and the trail of rose petals from the hallway. "Oh my god, you didn't have to do this."

"Look, I am sure that this may not be super romantic, but I knew that tonight was my opportunity to change everything with us. I know how things were rough in the beginning and I got to a very miserable state of mind and honestly, I didn't know what to think when you told me that you were pregnant but after I went through all of the bullshit with Mya and Jayden, I knew that I needed to really think about things, and this is one thing that I am ready for. We are having a son in a few months, and I want to marry you someday, so will you do me the honor of marrying me?"

"Yes, of course!"

"I just need you to promise me one thing."

"Anything."

"You won't go back to your old habits."

"I promise I won't."

"This is your last chance, Lexie."

"I know."

"So, don't mess up."

"I won't. I promise."
