Kid's Point of View

I was sitting on a branch, waiting for Damien to give me the signal. I didn't exactly agree with his ideas all the time, but I owed him my loyalties all the same.

And I felt a bit bad for the girl, Winter. I could still hear Damien yelling at her about her phone. I had to admit, she had guts to try and talk to the boy. But it would have been better if she hadn't mentioned the others. I was worried that he might bring reinforcements or something like that to help free them.

Eventually Damien came out, and sat on the porch, fingering a thin, wicked looking blade. He was never with out it, but I really hoped he wouldn't end up having to use it. I hated when people had to get hurt, but I also knew if we were going to succeed, then it was going to happen.

I could hear Winter banging on the door, so Elise must have released her from that spell. I wasn't sure how I felt about that. Now she could get away. But I also knew that at least when the spell was on, you couldn't feel much of anything.

I remembered when Damien had first found me. I'd been beat-up and shivering in one of the alleys in my old city. I remembering thinking that he was one of the boys from earlier coming to finish what they'd started. And then everything became blurry. I almost went into shock, and hadn't noticed Elise watching me with almost clear eyes, concentrating on the spell.

I shook my head and saw Damien flick his wrist. I ducked instinctively as the knife flew at me, and levitated a bit in the process. I opened my eyes and plucked the knife from the bark next to my shoe. I gulped, knowing the cue was coming.

I waited until I saw the blonde hair beneath me. I jumped, landing neatly on his back and held onto his neck, hoping I didn't hurt the boy too much.

I could feel him moving around under me and pressed the blade to his back. "Don't move unless I say, got it." I said, my voice quivering.

When he didn't say anything I gulped and froze, my mind going blank. When he tried to roll onto his back I gasped and held on tighter, accidentally drawing a bead of blood.

"St-stand up, and stay st-still." I stammered, dropping to the ground when I let him go.

"Well, you actually came Niall. I must say I'm surprised." Damien said, standing up and walking towards us, nodding at me. "Good job Kid."

I nodded, biting my lip.

"What in Tartarus is this?" Niall asked, clenching his fists."You said I could talk to Winter if I came here. Where is she?"

"If you insist." He closed his eyes, and the branch blocking the door began to shrink.

The door swung open almost immediately, and Winter spilled out, quickly scrambling to her feet. "Niall! Oh to the gods, why are you here? I thought you were going to help the others-"

Niall shook his head. "Luke offered when I told him what you'd said."

"He was trying. But he failed miserably." Elise said, dragging another boy by his shirt collar. "I found him untying those Poseidon twins. Seems family sticks together."

I looked at the new guy and gulped. This was just what I was hoping wouldn't happen. I didn't want anymore violence than what was planned.

Damien scowled. "Did they get away? Or did you get them in time?"

She laughed sharply and pointed to her clear eyes. "Only the girl. But the other one's tied better than before. He's not getting another chance like that."

"I-is he the only one you've numbed?" I asked, nodding towards the boy I guessed was Luke.

"Yep." Elise said, moving behind him as her eyes returned to her natural warm brown color. Luke collapsed to the ground the rest of the way.

He sat back up and clutched his head. "What the...?" He murmured, looking at Niall, confused.

"Kid, let me see that knife." Elise said, holding her hand out.

I held onto it for a moment. This was the only thing keeping me safe that I knew of. I saw Damien murmuring to Winter, who looked away, hiding her face.

I let her pluck the knife out of my hand and squeezed my eyes shut. This is why you don't mess around with Damien's demigods. I thought.

I heard a gasp and then a gurgle before Niall yelled. "Luke! Why'd you kill him? He didn't do anything!"

Elise rolled her eyes when I looked at her. "He tried to let some of the demigods go. And we couldn't let him live after that."

"Wait," Winter said, looking at Niall in shock. "so Niall and I are gonna die to?"

Damien shook his head. "Nonsense. I'd never kill you. You're my blood."

"So was Summer." She muttered.

"I'll let the pathetic boy go. But he'll only live if you do something Winter." Damien said as Elise handed me the knife back after wiping it off.

"What? What do you want me to do?" Winter asked quickly, her eyes darting to the knife in my hand.

"Swear on the River Styx that you will not leave my army until we finish our quest and bring the Titans to their proper places on their thrones on Olympus. That you will offer your assistance."

She gasped, covering her mouth, and I knew why. You could never break that oath. If she did, she'd never get passed the river when she died. She'd be stuck on one side forever. It doomed your soul unless you died before you broke it.

My hand was shaking as I held the knife at his neck.

"Winter! Don't do it!" Niall said, "Think about Luke and his half-siblings. They don't deserve to be kept from their families like this."

"But Niall. I can't let you die too." She whimpered, and looked at Damien before speaking. "I-I swear. I swear on the River Styx that I will not leave your army until you finish your quest and bring the Titans to their proper places on their thrones on Olympus. I... I'll offer my assistance."
