Devil in the Shadows

CEO IM NAYEON'S FIRST DAY 2

All the way to the office Nayeon felt nervous tugging at the pit of her stomach. It's been years since she visited her father's office. The last time was with Minhyuk a couple of years ago.

She never liked doing business. Even when she was little she showed no interest in the family business. Her father always used to say that he will hand over the company to the man who married Nayeon.

Nayeon cared less. She was relieved when she found out that she was gay at the age of 18. Her first love is Jeongyeon and probably her last.

She clearly remembers the day she met Jeongyeon. After her high school graduation, she chose to teach singing and dancing for kids part time. Every Saturday she used to teach elementary school kids dance and music lessons in a building near the park.

One day she saw three girls playing in the park with two kids. It was Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Momo with Chaeyoung and Tzuyu. Nayeon would watch them from the window of her dance class. Often the youngest kids gets piggy back rides from the three elder ones. They would play and run around the park happily. Somehow the taller one among the three girls got Nayeon's attention. The way she cared for the younger ones and made them smile.

Nayeon always loved kids. Whenever she looked at Jeongyeon, she saw a perfect person to spend her life with. The thought scared her but she felt excited at the same time as well.

One Friday evening Nayeon bumped into Jeongyeon at a convenience store. All her groceries fell down and Jeongyeon helped her with it, even took it all the way to her apartment in the town. As a thank you they exchanged numbers and that was the beginning of things.

Jeongyeon invited her to the park to play with her friends and family. At first it was friendly meetings but then at some point they started spending time alone. Friendship slowly led to romance and before they knew they were inseparable.

Jeongyeon being in the military was hard. After training she left for missions out of state and Nayeon would wait weeks or even months to meet. But none the less they were so much in love.

When her father found out that she was having an affair with a girl, he was livid. He tried to make her move back to her house but she stood her ground and didn't let go. Everything changed when they found out her mother had cancer.

Nayeon had no other option but to return to her sick mother. But she begged her father to let her continue the job. With her father's rejection they faced many challenges but Jeongyeon was understanding. They even planned to get out of town once Jeongyeon makes enough money.

Everything went down the drain. Things got out of hand and Nayeon felt contemplated between choosing Jeongyeon or her family. Her sick mother was too much for her to handle at that time. An emotionally weak Nayeon gave into her parents desire and left Jeongyeon to suffer alone. She regretted that decision every single day of her life.

The horn woke Nayeon up from her thoughts. She looked ahead and saw that they had reached the office. Nayeon's hands started sweating. What if she makes a fool out of herself? Nayeon thought.

As if her nervousness had been felt, Agent Kyungwan asked." Do you need a minute Miss Im?" Nayeon couldn't see the agent's face clearly as they were wearing big black glasses. Oddly enough that comment made Nayeon feel better. She was forced to believe that this probably may not be Jeongyeon as the voice is too deep and manly compared to Jeongyeon.

"No. I am fine. Let's get this over with" Nayeon suggested and wiped her sweaty hands in her skirt before nodding.

Agent Kyungwan got out quickly and checked the perimeter before opening the door for Nayeon. Kyungwan held out a hand for Nayeon to take. This time the agent didn't forget to wear gloves so that Nayeon wouldn't feel her hands.
