The Author from Walnut Grove

New School

In a little house lived the Ingalls family. With their 4 daughters and 1 son. Caroline Ingalls grabs the pot of coffee and offers more to her husband Charles. "More coffee?" Charles graciously accepts but then asks his wife, "What's the matter with Carrie this Morning? It's the fourth time she;s been to the outhouse." Caroline smiled at her husband and said, "Just excited I guess. First day of school, new teacher." Caroline walks away, putting the coffee pot away as she yells to her older children, "Are you three about ready." Laura then spoke, "Me and Lottie are!" Then Lottie added, "Albert's still primping." Alber glared at his 2 sisters and said, "I am not!" This made both girls giggle at each other as Laura said, "Are too!" Caroline looked back at the loft and said, "Stop your fussing and get down here." Both Laura and Lottie simultaneously say, "Yes, Ma'am." Lottie makes her way down the ladder as Caroline and Charles smiled at their daughter. "Charlotte Maeve Ingalls you have grown beautiful over the summer. Do you think this may be your last year for school?" Charlotte looked at her mother and said, "Not sure ma. I like school and maybe the new teacher knows how to sing and can give some tips. If not I'm gonna have to stick with Mrs. Olsen."

Laura then laughed and said, "Wait till you see Albert." Albert climbed down the ladder. Caroline and Charles were confused on why their son was dressed so nicely. "What are you dressed for– A wedding or a funeral?" Charles said, looking at his son. Albert gave a weak smile and said, "I just thought I should look nice the first day back to school." Lottie rolled her eyes and said, "That's not the reason and you know it." Albert glared at Lottie and said, "It is too." Laura said, "Uh-Uh. He's so sure that the new teacher is going to be pretty. He's in love with her already." Albert rolled his eyes and said, "That's dumb." Lottie then said, "No dumber than wearing a tie to school Alby." Charles then interrupted the 3 older children and said, "Let's not argue about who's the dumbest. Why don't we get ourselves to school and find out who can be the smartest?" Laura said, "Yes, Sir." Lottie said, "Yes, Pa." All the 3 older children said goodbye to their parents as Carrie followed behind. 

The sibling quad walked to school as Laura said, "Nellie's lucky. She will graduate today." Lottie rolled her eyes and said,"At least we don't have to deal with 2 Olsen's anymore." They all laughed when Lottie saw that the Olsen's shop was clothed over. "Hi Mr. Olsen." Laura said as Mr. Olsen said, "Hello, Laura, Charlotte, Albert and Carrie." Albert said, "How's it going?" Mr. Olsen explained about the shop as Charlotte said, "Still a Secret, huh?" Mr. Olsen nodded as Lottie said, "You know if you need any help with the shop. I would be willing to work to pay off for my singing lessons." Mr. Olsen smiled and said, "I'll keep that in mind." Albert then said, "She has everybody in town guessing." Laura then kinda urged on and said, "We wouldn't tell." Mr. Olsen thought for a second then said, "Aw, what the heck? Everybody's going to know today anyway. It seems Harriet thought that if she had this." But he was interrupted by an annoying voice as he said, "I swear she could hear a flea belch a mile away." All the kids giggled at what he said.

Listening to Olsen complain about the workers as Albert talked about Pa and Mr. Garvey. Then the school bell rang and Albert said, "Common girls, I wanna get a seat in the front." Lottie rolled her eyes, grabbed her little sister Carrie's hand and said, "Come on, Carrie." Everyone was putting their lunch pails away as Carrie and Lottie sat behind Albert and Laura. Even though Lottie wants to be a singer she would also love to be a writer and secretly is writing her own story. She read the board, 'Eliza Jane Wilder' in her mind and she thought about how beautiful the name was poetic. The new teacher said, "Welcome class. I am Miss Wilder." Albert frowned and undid his tie making his sisters giggle. All the students were listening to her teachings as Lottie enjoyed learning.
