The next morning The Ingall's family went to town for school and potential work. Lottie said that she needed to get something from the Mercantile for school. She walked in and said, "Mr. Olsen! Mr. Olsen!" Nels Olsen walked out of the storage area to see Charlotte. "Ahh Charlotte, how may I help you today?" Charlotte smiled and said, "Can you pass a message to Mrs. Olsen for me?" Nels nodded. "Please tell her that I would no longer be having singing lessons with her." This made Nels surprised but nodded as Charlotte continued. "I would still like to work for you Mr. Olsen but my money goes toward Pa's medicines. Please don't tell them." Nels smiled and said, "You can start today after school for say 4 hours?" Charlotte smiled thanking Mr. Olsen and heading toward school.

At school Lottie was sitting on the stairs writing in her book when she heard a carriage. She looked up to see Miss. Wilder and Manny as she smiled. "Good morning Miss. Wilder, Manny." Eliza Jane smiled and said, "Oh Charlotte please. Call me Eliza when we aren't in school." Charlotte smiled and said, "Then Lottie for me Eliza." Almanzo said, "Hey Maeve. How's your Pa doing?" Lottie smiled and said, "Doing a bit better. Also I think I might have a nickname for you." This made Almanzo very curious and said, "What is it?" Lottie smiled. "Amazon. Like the Amazon river." Almanzo smiled and said, "Alright. You are the only one to call me that though." Lottie nodded as Eliza got off and headed to the building.

"Hey Maeve! I have a question for you." Lottie looked at Almanzo and said, "Yes?" Almanzo got off the carriage and walked over to Lottie and said, "I would like to get to know you a bit more. Do you mind having dinner with me tonight at the restaurant?" Lottie blushed and said, "Sure Amazon, I would be honored." Almanzo smiled and said, "Great. It's a date." Lottie smiled and said, "You start work." Almanzo nodded and said, "Just across." Lottie smiled and said, "Have a good day at work, Amazon." Almanzo nodded and started over to work as Lottie walked into school and rang the bell.
