Charlotte and Almanzo were by the lake enjoying a nice picnic in the afternoon. Charlotte smiled as the sun beamed on her face but one things for certain. Something was wrong with Almanzo. She looked over to her beau and said, "Amazon, what's wrong? You're offly quiet." Almanzo looked at Charlotte and said, "Just have a lot on my mind Maeve. About my future with you anyway." This made Charlotte confused as she said, "Your future with me?" The sadness in her voice was caught by Almanzo as he grabbed her hand and pulled her close as he said, "Nothing back Maeve. Just trying to figure out what I wanna do. How to ask you." Charlotte looked at Almanzo and said, "Ask me? Ask me what?" Almanzo stayed quiet as Charlotte looked at her beau sadly and said, "Do you wanna write it down?"
Almanzo looked at Charlotte and said, "That might be best." Charlotte nodded grabbed her stuff and passing it over to Almanzo. She saw as he was writing it down making her look back to the pond. "Dang, the point broke." Charlotte looked back at Almanzo and said, "Let me see what you wrote Amazon." Grabbing the paper from him as she looked reading it to herself as she looked back at Almanzo. "What do you want to do Amazon?" Almanzo looked at Charlotte then sighed getting back and reaching into their picnic basket.
He got down on one knee grabbing Charlotte's hand and said, "Charlotte Maeve Ingalls, I've been in love with you ever since that day I met you. I knew that I wanted to be with you. Maeve I want you to be my wife." Charlotte smiled brightly as she said, "Amazon! I would love to be your wife!" The couple kissed as they enjoyed their moment together as they watched the birds
After Almanzo dropped Charlotte at the Ingalls home. Charlotte waved goodbye to her fiancé. Then walked home and started to write her book more when her Pa and Ma walked into the house. "Ma, Pa. Can you sit for a 2nd. I have some news to share you." Charles and Caroline looked at their 2nd eldest daughter and nodded sitting beside her. "I want you to finish listening before saying anything. Especially you Pa." Charles nodded agreeing to what Charlotte said. "This afternoon Almanzo and I went to the pond for a picnic date and something wonderful happen. Almanzo asked me to be his Future Mrs. Wilder." Caroline and Charles cheered for their daughter smiling as they talked.
