After the Ingalls family learned that the orphanage found Albert's dad and that he wanted him again. The whole family was in despair. The girls went to school, Ma and Grace stayed home to do their normal things, and Charlotte was at the Mercantile doing her usual work. Today was an off day for Charlotte knowing that when Pa get's home he won't have her brother with him. Nels saw how upset she was and decided to get Almanzo to maybe make her happy again. "Almanzo!" Almanzo turned around to see Nels walking up to him. "Hey Mr. Olsen, how can I help you." Nels looked around and said, "Do you think during lunch you can check on Charlotte? Her family is having a rough time since they're losing Albert." Almanzo nodded and said, "I have lunch with her today. Thank you for telling me Mr. Olsen." Nels smiled and walked back to the shop doing inventory but kept a close eye on Charlotte.
Lunch time arrived as Charlotte sat on the porch just staring at her food. She sighed with tears coming down her cheeks trying not to cry. "Maeve?" Charlotte looked up to see Almanzo as he sat down beside her. "I've heard about you guys losing Albert." Lottie stayed quiet knowing if she tried to speak she would have no voice. Almanzo grabbed her hand as they sat in silence making Charlotte look over at the school and see Carrie and Laura doing the exact same thing. Today was an upsetting day for the Ingalls family and only a few noticed. After lunch ended, Almanzo quickly hugged Charlotte making her want to start crying and Almanzo said, "Maeve, if you need to cry then cry. Don't keep it in." Lottie shook her head no and said, "I need to stay strong for Laura and Carrie. If they see me cry they will start crying and that can't happen in school." Almanzo nodded as he hugged her deeply and they headed back to their work.
A few hours later a blonde headed man came in and was looking around. "Welcome to The Olsen's Mercantile, how may I help you today?" The man came over and said, "Do you by any chance know if the Ingalls still live here?" Charlotte eyes the man and says, "Why would you like to know." The man said, "I was here around the same time Mary, Laura, and Charlotte went to that school over there. My name is Jason." Charlotte's eyes went wide and said, "Jason? As in Jason Gilbert?" The man looked confused and said, "Yes?" Charlotte smiled and said, "It's me Charlotte Ingalls." Jason's face went into shock as he said, "Lottie? Wait, where is Laura?" Charlotte smiled and said, "In school right now. Wait, why are you Walnut Grove? I thought you and your family moved." Jason nodded and said, "We did but I came back." They talked for a few hours when Laura came over. "Charlotte, who are you talking to?"
"Laura, it's Jason from years ago. When you guys were close." Laura went into shock as ran away making Jason confused and Lottie smiled. "Give her some time." Jason nodded looking back and said, "She has grown so beautiful." Charlotte smiled and said, "She'll be turning 16 soon and you're only 2-3 years older than her." Jason nodded when Charlotte saw the time. "I best be heading back Jason. See you sometime soon." Jason nodded watching the Ingall sisters leave. When Laura and Lottie talked about Jason's return they looked up to see Pa. Albert was with him, making them smile and all the Ingalls hugged.
