(Ignore the hat)
The next day during lunch Lottie went over to the Mercantile to talk to Nels. "Nels!" Nels walked out of the storage room to see Lottie. "Ahh Lottie! How can I help you?" Lottie smiled and said, "I'm going to be doing the school Certificate test. I was wondering if you had the books?" Nels nodded quickly grabbing them and said, "Take them for free. As soon as you finish with them then bring them back. Make sure that neither Nellie or Harriet see you." Lottie nodded, thanking Nels walking back to school to start studying, not knowing that Almanzo had been staring at her. Charles saw this and said, "Almanzo!" Almanzo turned to see Charles and said, "Mr. Ingall's." Charles smiled and said, "If you want to court my daughter then you have my permission." Almanzo smiled, thanking Charles and decided to ask her when she graduates.
Nels gave her the day off so that she could take her time to study. She walked to her favorite place to study until near sunset. She walked home and sat on the loft studying seeing Laura study. Dinner arrived and Charles didn't allow the girls to study at the dinner table. To give her eyes a break from the book. Every chance she got she would study if that meant to read as she walked. Nearly bumping into people making her apologize. Both Ingall girls had studied instead of playing like the other children. One thing that Lottie noticed was she spent more time on spelling than history. "Laura, why aren't you studying for History?" Laura rolled her eyes ignoring her sister making Lottie sigh.
Today was the day that Laura took her examination but Lottie was nervous about it. After the 3 of them left Lottie then talked to her Ma and Pa. "I don't think that Laura is gonna pass the test." Her parents were confused why Lottie thought so. "She was barely studying for history. Both Nels and Eliza both said that history was a huge part of the test but I didn't see her study it one bit." Charles and Caroline looked confused at each other when Charles said, "I'll take you to town for school Charlotte." Charlotte nodded as they got onto the carriage and Lottie arrived just in time for the bell to ring.
Lunch time arrived and Lottie kept studying as she ate her lunch. Almanzo walked over to Lottie as she was reading her book. "So, how is studying?" Lottie smiled and said, "I'm feeling very confident for next week. The only thing that makes me nervous is Laura. She barely studied History. From what Nels and Eliza said. It's the biggest part of the test and I'm not sure." Almanzo grabbed Lottie's hand and said, "I bet both you and Laura will do great on the test." Lottie smiled and said, "Thank you Almanzo." The couple stared at each other for a little bit. All the sudden she saw Laura run away making her confused quickly getting up as her figure became smaller and smaller.
