Breaking Board

Milton ran down the stairs at school. "You're not gonna believe it! Duke Evans is coming to the mall this weekend!"

Theo munched on a sandwich as Jack walked up to them. "...Who's that?"

"Duke Evans is a world champion speed board-breaker." Eddie explained as Jack rolled his eyes.

"Check it out." Milton brought up a video of him on his phone.

And sure enough, the man was awfully quick.

"Duke Evans is a loser who travels around in a motor home doing karate demos." Jack complained.

"He's having a board breaking challenge to see if anybody can break his record." Milton told him.

Jack groaned. "I'd love to break that guy's record. Watch him soak up his tears with his own mullet..."

Eddie raised an eyebrow. "I dunno Jack, you think you're ready to take on a guy like the Duke?"

"You really think he's not?" Mira couldn't help asking with amusement.

Jack smiled. "Thank you Mira. And yeah, exactly."

And to show them, Jack spun and shut all of the open lockers with some swift kicks.

Just then, Jerry walked by them, dressed in pajamas. His cousin was visiting and it was apparently exhausting.

Jack aggressively broke the boards Jerry held up for him in the dojo.

"Time!" Mira exclaimed, stopping the stopwatch.

"Twenty one boards." Eddie breathed.

"Yes!" Jack grinned.

Mira smiled shyly. "That was really cool." She admitted.

"Aw, thanks Mira, it's all about technique and focus-" Jerry started proudly, making Jack stare at him in disbelief.

"She means me." He snapped.

Just then, Kim walked out of the changing room in a white dress with a red and white striped apron over it. "See you guys later."

Mira looked at her in surprise but didn't say anything.

"Have fun." Milton told her.

But she still stood there, waiting for someone to ask her what she was doing. "...Aren't you gonna ask about my outfit?"

The boys stared at her.

"What outfit?"

"Nope."

"Didn't notice."

"Looks the same to me."

Theo looked up from his bag of chips, blinking. "Huh?"

Kim was not impressed.

"Don't take it personally Kim, they're boys." Mira reminded her teasingly.

"I'm a candy striper, you freaks." She snapped. "I'm volunteering at the hospital."

Theo tilted his head. "And a candy striper is...what? Is there actual candy involved?"

Kim chuckled. "I cheer up patients, bring them flowers, and do everything I can to ignore what's in their bedpans." She shuttered at the thought before leaving.

"Okay, let's get back to work Jerry. I really wanna beat that jerk's record." Jack insisted firmly.

Mira sighed. "I'm all for practice, just don't over do it." She warned. "You don't want to hurt yourself right before something this big."
