Queen of Karts

Everyone was at the go kart track for Milton's birthday. Jack and Jerry were poking around the presents while Theo was eating from the bowl of chips.

"It's pretty cool that Milton's parents let him have his party here." Jack noted.

"Way better than last year's." Jerry huffed. "When he shared with his sister. Teddy bear theme in the front, pirate in the back."

Theo shrugged. "I dunno, I thought his sister's pirate party was pretty cool." Jack nodded in agreement.

Milton came over to them. "Phew, that last ride nearly took me out."

"...I didn't see you on the go-kart track." Jack's eyebrows furrowed.

"I wasn't, I was on the rocket ship by the ball pit." Milton gestured to the kiddie ride nearby.

Kim looked over from her spot next to Rudy, grinning. "Guys, check this out. The one in the blue kart is insane!"

The others took a glance and Jack gasped. "Whoa, he might break the course record!"

"It's gonna be close!" Rudy nodded.

The blue go-kart passed the finish line. "3 minutes and 21 seconds!" The announcer shouted. "That's a new track record folks!" The go-kart slowed to a stop nearby.

"That was awesome!" Milton beamed.

"Seriously cool." Jack grinned.

But that's when Mira removed her helmet, showing she had been the driver.

"MIRA!?" They all gasped in disbelief.

Mira nearly jumped out of her skin when she noticed them. "AHHHHH!" She froze for a moment before chuckling nervously. "Wow, um, look at the time, I need to go find my group of friends that are somewhere that isn't here."

She bolted, leaving them all stunned.

Mira was sitting alone in Falafel Phil's when Jack, Kim and Theo suddenly came in and hurried to sit down.

"Okay, when were you gonna tell us your some go-kart superstar?" Kim grinned.

"It's not that big a deal..." Mira's shoulders slumped.

Jack sputtered. "Not that big a deal? Mira you broke the course record!"

"You drove like a mad woman." Theo added before setting a flyer down in front of her. "And check it out."

Mira frowned. "Junior National 500 Go-Kart Race?"

"You've gotta enter this Mira, you'd destroy that contest." Jack told her excitedly.

"Wow...you know, not that that doesn't sound...great," Mira started awkwardly. "But uh, we don't have the money for that sort of thing and uh, you know with a go-kart you need, well, a kart, and a pit crew so... oh well."

Just then, Bobby rolled in in his fancy chair and ordered some food..

Theo called to him. "Hey Bobby, wanna sponsor a go-kart team? We'll put your face on the kart."

"I'm in!" Bobby grinned. "Daddy loves his face."

"Problem solved." Theo smiled.

"...Great..." Mira trailed off weakly.

Mira reluctantly entered the go-kart building with Jack, she was in a fancy blue uniform to symbolize their team.

"Oh hey, check it out Mira, when you sign up tomorrow you get one of these cool pens." Jack held it up to show her with a smile.

Mira sighed. "Jack listen, I don't really care about the pen. But I just think maybe-" She noticed the dazed off look in his eyes. "You just want to play with the pen, don't you?"
