Proximity

Zoe's POV

"I can't believe you came back for me" I said with tears in my eyes. I've never been happier to be in a dungeon chained to my enemy. This brought back so much deja vu. This was how we met. Our forced proximity. "You're my mate, my chained dragon. I'd go to hell and back for you" said Ryker with a smile on his face too. "I'd do the same for you Ryker" I said, still not believing this.

"Which is how I know we're going to make it out of here alive. You were being so heavily guarded that I knew the only way to get you out was to be caught" said Ryker. I stared up into his eyes amazed that he risked his life to save mine. "Now that I'm here all we have to do is break out," said Ryker with a smile on his face.

Chained in my own dungeon I look at Ryker with shock. "I can't believe you got caught on purpose," I said. "Oh course you think Noah would catch me if I didn't want him to?" Ryker said cocky. I never found Ryker to be so much hotter than now. "No I don't" I said, teasing him. I smile as my inner dragon roars with pleasure. "I'm nervous Noah will kill you before we get a chance to escape" I said, feeling the pressure to escape. "No, he wants your flight to love and accept him," said Ryker as he rolled his eyes.

"Which means he's going to make a public spectacle of my death," said Ryker, sounding charming. I shake my head loving this look on him. "We'll be long gone by then," said Ryker confidently. Suddenly the door opens and Noah stomps inside. He strides right up to Ryker and punches him in the face. "Noah no" I yell trying to grab him away. "Fuck off Zoe, you chose this loser over me" said Noah with venom on his tongue.

"Yeah, she should choose the guy that's about to execute her instead," said Ryker smiling with Noah grabbing his hoodie. Noah looked furious. Noah punches Ryker again. "You're only proving your jealousy of Ryker" I said, catching his attention. Noah turns to me and punches me in the stomach. "Fuck, I'll kill you" growled Ryker protectively. I stay silent while Ryker goes crazy against his chains when Noah hits me. Noah looks back at Ryker and gives a cruel laugh.

"You're going to watch as I gut Zoe in front of you" said Noah. He punches Ryker one last time before he leaves. "Ryker, are you okay?" I asked him, still groaning in pain. He grabs my hand knowing I'm healing. "I'll be better after I kill Noah," said Ryker dangerously. I know I've never seen Ryker this pissed before in the entire time we have been together.

"If I can get us out of the cuffs, can you sneak us out of here?" Asked Ryker. "Yes, I don't think Emily knows about our secret tunnels," I said. "Good because I've enlisted the help of your friends," said Ryker. "What friends? I have no friends" I said, confused. "I found Conner in the woods by my house. He's agreed to help us. We just need to be patient" said Ryker. I was so happy to hear about Conner again.

"I've got all the time in the world," I said with a smile. Ryker gives me a smirk before his tone turns serious. "Tell me about your kidnapping" said Ryker, shocking my very memories. "Matysa is responsible," I said slowly. I give Ryker every detail about how Matysa dressed like a dragon hunter and gave me to Noah. Ryker pulls against his chains in anger. "My own fucking brother. I should've known" said Ryker.

"No you shouldn't have. Family is who you're supposed to trust" I said sadly. "Yes but I knew Matysa was next in line to be the dragon lord," said Ryker. "At first I thought he was only after me but once I saw him working with the dragon hunters, I knew it was him who set you up all along" I said honestly. "That means my mother is also in danger. She was kidnapped with us the first time" said Ryker, worried about the flight.

"He'll need her support if he wants to take over as the dragon lord," said Ryker. "You're mother hates me. So I think she'd support getting rid of me but not getting rid of you too" I said. "No one's getting rid of you. My flight will be on my side" said Ryker. His tone changes to one of contemplation. "Matysa seemed excited when I became dragon lord," said Ryker softly. "He had to be. You were the older sibling and much stronger than him" I said leaning my head on Ryker's shoulder.

"You were raised to take over as the leader. He had no choice but to follow" I said. "Why turn on me now?" Questioned Ryker. "It's possible it's the first time the opportunity presented itself. Noah may have gone to him with a deal" I said lightly moving closer to him. Ryker shakes his head. Then his eyes search my face.

"My own family betrayed me. Here I'm in a dungeon with the woman who used to be my greatest enemy" said Ryker. "What am I to you now?" I asked him. "You're the woman who has changed my perception about everything, my chained dragon" said Ryker. I smile at the nickname lightly. "There's something I need to ask you," said Ryker. "You can ask me anything," I said, knowing I'm utterly devoted to him.

"I'm not sure what's going to happen with our dragon flights. All I'm sure about is when this is over I want us to be together" said Ryker wrapping his arms around me. Butterflies flood my stomach as I process what Ryker is asking me. "So you want us to somehow stay in the same flight?" I asked him. I was hoping he was saying what I think he was saying.
