Zoe's POV

I knew my mind was made up. I shifted into my dragon and lifted Ryker's lifeless body in my claws. Then, I fly toward the volcano. I left everything I could behind. I knew this wasn't going to be easy. My wings carried us to the volcano of the dragon gods and the first dragon flame. When I land on the ledge, I lie Ryker's body gently on the ground. "Dragon Gods, I'm here to beg your mercy" I roared. I waited for any sound that may be one of the gods.

"My true dragon mate, Lord Ryker, has been killed by a druid" I said, still awaiting an answer. Nothing was all I could hear. Silence over the flow of the volcano. "I'm here to ask you to restore his life" I pleaded. An old woman, who looks frail, steps out from behind the rocks. I shift into my human form as she approaches. Her power is unlike anything I've ever felt before. "We do not restore life," said the woman. She was a dragon god and she just crushed my last hope.

"Once dead, dragons remain dead," she said. She may be speaking clearly but I gritted my teeth. I felt like I was the volcano about to erupt. She couldn't say those things to me. I needed Ryker like I needed air. If they really were gods they should have the power to return him to me. If not, why make us mates in the first place? No god should take a life that would be needed to kill a druid. They would be spending their race into extinction. What was their plan all along?

"You made us true mates for a reason" I said with tears creeping down my face. She had no room left for my prayers and sparrows. "Save Ryker so we can defeat the druids once and for all," I said, encouraging her. She looked at me like she already had the last word. I cried in front of her begging for her to listen to me. "Please. I'll do anything" I begged her. "Would you give your life for Ryker's" she said as I looked up at her as my vision was blurry.

"Yes I would give my life" I said without hesitation. The dragon god turned away, but I ran after her and grabbed her wrist. As soon as I touch her, I'm pushed back by her incredible force. "You are not allowed to touch me ever" she snapped at me. I needed her to continue what I had to do for Ryker to get back to me instead of leaving. I wanted to growl at her but I didn't. I just gritted my teeth and kept my snarl from escaping out of my lips. I couldn't be disrespectful now.

"I'm sorry but please, I love Ryker. Help me save him" I said. I couldn't ruin my only chance of getting Ryker back. We both came too far for me to lose him. He still laid on the ground as if he was asleep even though he was gone. She points to the volcano where lava flows from the top. "You need to jump into the volcano," she said as I looked up at the fiery spitting lava splashing down the sides of it. I knew that was hotter than the first dragon flame ever known to dragons.

"You can't be serious that he will wake up after I jump in," I said, not believing her. "If your love is true, you both will live. If not, you both die" said the dragon god. "I'm confident our love is true," I said. From the moment me and Ryker were in that hunter dungeon there was no need for explanation. Dragon's like us were extinct. I knew it. Everything that had happened to us from the moment I was going to get married to Noah was just proof of what I truly was, a dragon mate. This was the whole reason my parents are dead and who Ryker lost as well.

"Then there's nothing to worry about," said the dragon god. The dragon god walks away and disappears into the sky. I shift into my dragon and lift Ryker's body with my claws again. He felt so cold. It was like his touch was ice. The smell of death lingered now. Usually we burn our dead but Ryker might have the chance as long as I hurry. I didn't know if I could trust this dragon god but if she was willing to help me get Ryker back I just hoped she was right.

I couldn't be in a war without him being on my side. I looked down at him resting in my claws. Soon this will all be a bad dream. His eyes were closed and I wished I could see his blue stormy eyes again and tell me we are chained together dragons. I missed his comfort and overprotectiveness. I know deep down he would be yelling at me not to sacrifice myself to save him. I knew he would be doing the same thing if it was me in his shoes. He wouldn't rest in fact.

I owe him this. He rescued me so many times that it's now my time to return the favor. As I looked at him I couldn't help but say "I believe in our love. I believe in us." Holding Ryker in my claws, I fly into the volcano, down toward the lava. I let out a scream. Right before I hit the lava, the volcano explodes. I looked at what was below me. It was plasma lava. The hottest thing in the world. I knew how dragon fire burns and even kills dragons but this was worse.

I knew the molting lava was going to kill me. My flaps were steady as I looked down. Rocks and sparks were flying. Being close to the active volcano just swarmed me with heat. I looked down at Ryker and I knew he would be warning me but I would rather hear him yell those words than think he is saying them to me in his head. I quickly take a deep breath and I dive into the lava.
