Saphira's POV.

I shook my head lying to my mate. He couldn't know about the copper. "It's okay I have all the time in the world" he said. I smiled, feeling grateful. I was not the best at communicating. Riven saw our way out and he told me I had to fight. "I don't know how," I said. He didn't judge me but he knew this was harder.

"Hold on," he said. He picked me up in his arms. He started running as he carried me bridal style. Everyone gasped as they saw him take off towards the window. We hit the glass and he threw up. I transformed into my dragon and we took off flying. Just as he shifted the copper affected me. I turned back into a human.

I screamed as guards ran after us. "Get her" yelled Claude. I was falling in the air as Riven caught me with his talons. I sighed as I was taken away from the territory. The dizzying feeling finally left me as we got away. "Why didn't you tell me you couldn't shift?" said Riven. I was embarrassed and now they know I can't shift into a dragon anymore. I looked away from him.

"We are mates. It's okay" said Riven. "I have been injected with copper," I told him. I watched as he looked in rage. He roared loudly cursing at them for what they did to me. I hugged his claw hoping he wouldn't explode. He sighed and looked at me with sad eyes. "I just got you," he said in a soft voice. I hugged him tightly as he flew faster out of their territory.

After a few minutes of silence he said "I know a place we can rest." He flew north and we landed on the ground. There we found dragon statues. I laid on the floor as Riven shifted back to a human. He came back to hold me in his arms. I looked at the lovely dragon statues. "Can you imagine this place being a ruin?" I told him as I looked at the limestone. "No," he said as he grabbed my hand. He studied my arm as I tried to change the subject.

"The copper is traveling through you too fast," said Riven. "I'm okay" I said lying. "Stop that," said Riven. I looked at him confused. "What?" I asked him. He sighed loudly but held me tighter. "The lying," he answered. "I'm sorry I usually don't talk" I told him honestly. He looked at me more confused. "I was just an alarm for my dizziness" I told him the truth.

"I'm sorry," he said. I nodded my head as he was cocooning me. "Any dreams?" I asked him. "I want dragons to have their own individual groups so that Lisette will never rule over us. I hate how we have been in war. I think that we should stop and be left alone, able to live how we want" said Riven. I thought that was a great dream to have. I liked the sound of it.

"What would be the names of the groups?" I asked him. He thought for a moment. "Red Rock flight. Black sun flight. Other names of course. Demon flight for my last name. A memory of me" he said. I looked at him since he told me his last name. "Riven Atticus Demon" he said, saying his whole name. It sounded good all placed together. "Your whole name?" he asked me.

"Saphira Florence Eclipse" I said. "Beautiful. That could be another name for a flight" he said happily. I looked at him with a smile. We both stayed in silence as the day turned to night. Nobody could track us out here. We were safe with these statues. It was our sanctuary. "You never learned to fight?" He asked me. I shook my head no. He leaned his head against mine in comfort.

The feeling of power and even copper was all I felt. "What is your dream?" He asked me. It took me a second to think. "No more war. Forgetting that I was an alarm. Learned to fight. Lived an adventurous life" I said, naming just a few. He looked at me as if that was an impressive list. It's just what I would have wanted.

"You know I was learning to fight and I heard the best dragon fighters are dragons with black and white scales," he said. I looked at him wanting to hear more. We cuddled up wanting to feel warm. Talking was easy and carefree. "Black dragons are best at fighting at night. They can surprise anyone" Riven said. I could imagine how those dragons could look right now.

"White dragons have a higher advantage during the day. Flying into the sun to blind their enemies. Best attack I have ever learned. Sometimes the sun would reflect off them and they could hide in the clouds undetected" said Riven. Looking at the sky I thought of how crazy that would be. "Yin and Yang" I giggled.

"It could be possible," said Riven. I laughed as I cuddled into Riven more. "It would be nice if somebody would put a fire here," said Riven. I nodded my head as I was surrounded in warmth. Everything Riven said I agreed with. I was fascinated with his words and stories. Just meeting my mate and this was possible. I thought I was going to die at Lisette's side alone.

Feeling Riven's skin against mine was all I could imagine. So soft and perfect for me to lay on. His red eyes and red dragon were amazing. I couldn't imagine being separated from him. Just as we were falling asleep together I felt my brain scrambling. I knew I didn't have long to live. The copper was entering my bloodstream. I was only going to be weaker.

The Druids only found out copper is our weakness after studying us for so long. I held onto him tighter. Tingles running around me. I was falling in love too fast. It was inevitable that I was going to die. I hoped my last moments I was with Riven by my side.
