Unknown's POV. Time of the last dragon mates.
My eyes opened suddenly as I awoke. "Saphira, come on, this isn't the time to rest," said Lisette. I laughed at her assumptions. "I needed to rest my eyes," I said, telling her the truth. She looked at me as if she caught me in a lie. "I am the only dragon god here. You can't lie to me" said Lisette. I shake my head still trying to deny it. "Worst liar ever" said Lisette laughing. "I wanted to sleep in," I said, trying to defend myself. "We both know you love that," said Lisette.
I know she can tell when I am lying but she doesn't know the real reason I sleep in. I, Saphira Eclipse, knew something was wrong when my family tried to kill me when I was six years old. Nevertheless, I live a normal life at the volcano of the gods. I was brought here by my best friend Lisette. She became my takecarer until I grew up to be a young adult. Dragons come from all over the land, even druids. The dragon flame was our very important power.
It came from the volcano. It's where I grew up. We became powerful and got into a very bad war. I think it's why my parents tried to kill me. It's not the most pleasant fact that I knew about my life. Druids have been killing dragon mates for years. I know Lisette will never have one. She claims I do. The last two that were killed before me just died last night. It was hard to believe that me and my other half would be the last dragon mates in history. Lisette knew how important I was. My parents thought of killing me before the druids could. I know what this meant.
I got dressed as quickly as possible and walked with Lisette where the other dragons were waiting for us. I sat by her side. "I dragon god will answer to the druids so we can stop this war" said Lisette loudly. Dragons roared with cheers. "End this war" they roared into the sky. Before they could cheer more. I began to feel dizzy. I grabbed the chair I was sitting on. "The druids are here" said Lisette as the door opened. I always hated that feeling. It was whenever they got close. It was the reason dragon mates were hunted down. It was our sense of the druids.
Whenever they are around dragon mate females become dizzy and even faint. Passing out was the worst feeling ever. Druids have used this sense against us females. It makes killing us much easier. Mates become too distracted. It isn't even our fault. The druids have that against us and it's uncontrollable. Dragon mates were known for the purest of love and strong warriors. Using the weaknesses we have as mates have been our downfall. I learned this very carefully.
As the last female mate Lisette kept me close to her. I was needed around so that I could give the signal that if we ever got a surprise attack I would know. People would see me faint or get dizzy. Lisette thought I would be the best alarm if Druids tried anything. I felt like her friend and just a warning. People don't know my name at all. They just call me the last mate. My dizziness is their blessing. They just praise that all female dragon mates can still get dizzy for their protection. As me being the last one they hope my bloodline can secure dragon mates.
Lisette knows most about what this world is like. Druids lived first. Dragon shifters came second and got the power of the dragon flame and shifting ability from the volcano. Lisette is the first one that came across this and became the first dragon and dragon god. This gave many people hope but Druids wanted it to be erased. So they started the attack and she claimed god.
With the dragon flame and their shifting abilities Lisette led the war. She learned along the way that true mates were not from her very power but from the volcano itself. No other true mates were found except me and that was just because my family was going to kill me once they found out that I get dizzy whenever a druid is nearby. That led me to Lisette.
Just then the dizziness I felt went away and the Druid leader was in front of us. "Claude, welcome. State your reason for coming today" said Lisette. Everyone waited for any sign of attack. I kept my head down because I knew they would know who I am. "Dragon god" said Claude as if he had venom on his tongue. He said it with great disguise but he said it as true as he could. Sounding superficial at least he stood alone in a room full of dragon shifters.
"I would like to request a treaty" said Claude, the druid leader. Everyone gasped in shock. I lifted my head up to see that he looked serious as ever. "On what terms" said Lisette. She knew this meant something. I looked at her as she seemed just as curious. I focused ahead to see what he was talking about but then I caught his eyes on me. Lisette must have got the same idea because she stood up. "You can't take Saphira," said Lisette as she looked down at him.
"But what I am asking is her hand in marriage" said Claude. Everyone seemed very surprised. Even I stood up from my seat. "Why would you want to marry her?" asked Lisette. "She is a dragon mate. Much precious to you. I don't like you and I am not fond of how you act. You are no god. I feel like this would be the way to end this war" said Claude. Was this our answer?
