Zoe's POV

I stand in Ryker's study as Sasha points a gun at him. "I can't believe I didn't see it. You've always hated me" said Ryker. Alcina lies on the floor clutching her bleeding stomach. As quietly as possible I kneel down next to her and press my hands on her wound. "Alcina lies still. We're going to get you out of here" I said trying to check on her. "Don't worry about me child. Just take care of my son" said Alcina with tears coming down her face. "I promise I won't let anything happen to Ryker" I said, promising her the one thing she asked me for.

"I know. I have faith in you Zoe" said Alcina crying. Alcina squeezes my hand then pushes me toward Ryker. I stand next to him as Matysa steps next to Sasha. "How dare you shoot Alcina" I growled. "Alcina should've died for her betrayal against me a long time ago. She was a mere serving girl when she got pregnant by Ryker's father, I wanted her and the baby banished but Ryker's father insisted she not be harmed" said Sasha. "Why didn't you tell me?" asked Ryker.

"I was having trouble getting pregnant and your father worried he wouldn't produce an heir. Matysa came a few years later but it was too late. The flight had already accepted you as our next probable dragon lord" said Sasha. "When that position really should've gone to me. I am the rightful heir to our flight" said Matysa. Aiden steps next to Ryker. "Our dragon lords fight for their position. It doesn't matter who they were born to. Matysa could've challenged Ryker but didn't. Ryker is our rightful dragon lord" said Aiden strongly.

"Which means Sasha and Matysa committed treason by having him kidnapped" I said. "Ryker wasn't working with our enemy. You are" growled Aiden. Sasha laughs cruelly as she keeps her gun pointed at Ryker's heart. I move in front of Ryker. "You'll have to kill me first," I said, keeping my promise to Alcina. "No Zoe," said Ryker. He speaks in his deep dragon voice. "I am the dragon lord of the demon flight. Zoe has been crowned our dragoness. You will surrender yourselves or you will die" said Ryker. Aiden and the rest of the flight begin to chant Ryker's name. Ryker lunges for Matysa's legs, tackling him to the ground.

"Get off," yelled Matysa. "No you're going to be locked up for good," said Ryker growling. Sasha cocks her gun and shoots it at Ryker. He dodges it as Matysa punches a guard and jumps out the window. Ryker growled fiercely. "Matsya wait" calls Sasha. She starts to run toward the window. Sasha is just about to run past me when I reach out and grab her by the hair. I slam her onto the ground. "Take her to the dungeon," said Ryker. "Matysa will come back for me," said Sasha. "He just left you to die. I don't think he cares what happens to you now" growled Ryker.

Ryker hands Sasha to his guards and turns to Aiden. "Have every dragon available search for Matysa. I want to catch him before he leaves our land" ordered Ryker. "Yes lord Ryker" said Aiden. He runs off as Ryker lifts Alcina in his arms. "It's okay, mom. I've got you" said Ryker softly. Tears ran down Alcina's face. "You called me mom," she said, crying more. "You've always been my mother. Since I was a little boy it was you who raised me. I'm actually relieved it's not Sasha" said Ryker sniffling. "We need to get her upstairs Ryker. She's losing too much blood" I said looking at her wound. Ryker takes Alcina upstairs to her bedroom and lies her down.

Aiden enters with surgical supplies. "Alcina is our healer. Here are her supplies" said Aiden. Ryker looks at me with unshed tears. "Zoe, you said your mother was a healer. Can you help Alcina?" asked Ryker. I run down to the kitchen and boil some water. A few minutes later I ran back up. "Here let me clean her up," I said. I put a clean towel in the water and pressed the cloth to her stomach. I made sure to soak up all the blood. "I'm going to dig the bullet out but I'll need your help" said Ryker. "Do what you need to Ryker. I'll be okay" said Alcina.

Ryker's too emotional and I'm better skilled at this. "Ryker, I should get the bullet out. She's lost so much blood I'm worried about her losing more" I said. "What about your mate bond? Your bond provides special powers, Maybe you can heal me without having to cut?" said Alcina. Ryker looks at me with desperation in his eyes. "It's worth a try," said Ryker. "I'm not sure that's even a power we possess," I said, feeling like we are wasting our time. "You're right," said Ryker with a sigh. He knew we never even had that power before. It was just desperation and hope.

I work on his mother's wound. Finally he's able to get his head together. "How is she doing?" aske Ryker. "I got the bullet out, she'll live but it'll be a painful recovery" I said with my hands filled with blood. After everything was fine and Alcina needed her rest, me and Ryker walked back into our room. "Good news is your mother is still alive" I said with great joy. It was the best news we had in awhile. "you're right," said Ryker, relieved. He still seemed very distant.

"I'm going to get some fresh air. Why don't you shower first while I clear my head?" said Ryker. "You don't want to join me?" I asked. Ryker eyes me up and down with a smile. "Next time you better count on that," said Ryker. I was glad I didn't lose him completely. I didn't know what would happen if he closed off from me after capturing one of the traitors he thought was his mother. I needed him to know I was always here for him. No matter what happens next.
