Prom Disaster Pt 6

The drive from Jay's house to Kai's house was the most awkward situation Cole has ever been in. Well, one of the most. Jay was in the back so he could sit with Nya, and they didn't talk so that was really...

Never mind. Focus. Kai and Nya's driveway was kind of difficult to park in. The concrete was all uneven, and there was a big dip halfway through. They've asked for a new driveway a million times, but Ray always said that because the driveway worked, they didn't need a new one.

He made it up without any major problems. Kai and Nya were outside waiting. Nya hopped in the back seat and Kai in the passenger seat. Cole slowly backed out, only he hit an uneven patch really hard, and the whole car shook. "Oops."

Kai just sighed.

When they reached the high school, they were having trouble parking. Nya found a spot, but Kai and Jay said it was too small. The cars in the spots beside it parked horribly. But Cole didn't want to be driving around anymore so he cranked the steering wheel to the right.

He barely managed to fit. And they barely managed to get out.

"Dude, how did you do that? That spot is like, microscopic."

"I don't know. My uncle taught me how to drive. And he is kind of..." Cole searched for the right word.

"Idiotic?" Kai filled in.

"Yup. And crazy. So the way he taught me how to park, is if there's a chance you can fit, park it. If you hit another car, let's hope they have insurance."

"Wow."

They had reached the doors. The school decided to go the cheap route and just have it in the gym this year because last year was so expensive. But the school had a huge gym. There was enough room for two full sized basketball courts with the bleachers pulled out. Who knows why they sunk so much into the gym.

Walking towards the gym, Cole got nervous. For no reason. He began digging his fingernails into his palm.

Kai knew.

"Hey, it's gonna be okay." he said.

"But - "

Kai put a finger on his lips. "Nope. No buts."

"Fine." Cole gave in.

When they opened the gym doors, a wave of heat and loud music filled the hallway.

"Well, no time like the present. Let's go." Jay said.

----------------------

Near the end, a slow song came on. All the couples began slow dancing. "Shall we?" Kai asked his boyfriend.

"Sure."

They held each other closely. Both boys leaned in for a kiss and then -

"COLE!! COLE BROOKSTONE!!! ARE YOU IN HERE???" a familiar voice shouted. The music stopped, and all heads turned to the man in the doorway.

Lou.

Everyone parted and gave him a clear path to Cole and Kai.

"What are you doing here? I told you you couldn't come."

"You're not my dad, and I don't live in your house. So I don't think I'm going to listen to you." Kai and Cole had parted, but they were still holding hands.

"You nasty gay! I'm your father!"

Cole seemed like he didn't bother the comment, but deep down, a worrying darkness was taking over his mind.

"Hmm, but do I remember when you kicked me out? Yes I do. And when you made me live on the street? Also remember. When you said those exact words 'You're not my son'?

"I said you weren't my son. I didn't say I wasn't your father."

"IT'S THE SAME THING!!!!! God, all I wanted was a normal life. Not whatever this shit is."

"You can't be normal when you're gay."

The darkness grew.

"A normal life. With a normal dad and a normal school. And a normal boyfr - " he was cut off.

Lou's hand was pressed to Cole's face. "Don't you dare say boyfriend. That," he said, pointing at Kai. "is nothing but a piece of shit. Find a girlfriend, and maybe I'll forgive you."

The darkness spread even more. Cole was vulnerable to comments about him, but even more vulnerable to comments about Kai.

"Get your hands off of me!" Cole was stronger than Lou, and bigger. He ripped Lou's hand off with ease. "I can have a BOYFRIEND if I want to, and you're not in control of my life." he said with emphasis on the word.

You could practically see Lou's rage. It was in his eyes. "Something like that cannot possibly be your boyfriend. You just had to be gay and pick the worst one. What about me? I never asked for you, or for you to be gay. Lilly was the one who wanted you. And now that she's gone, there's nothing holding me back."

It was too much. The darkness was running through his veins, taking over his mind. He dropped to his knees, and his hand slipped from Kai's.

"No one could love you. This shit is fake. He's not yours." Lou said, poisoning Cole's mind with awful thoughts.

Kai got down with Cole, who had now moved into the duck-and-cover position. "Cole?" he whispered. When he looked closer, he could see that his boyfriend was sobbing.

Tears rolling down his face, he whispered "I'm a failure."

Lou was still slurring at Cole for being gay, but all that mattered was this moment. "I'm a failure." he said again. "To you, and to Nya, and to Lou."

The people standing around got pissed at Lou. The LGBTQ+ couples especially. This guy can come in here and just do that? To his son?

A popular girl named Alicia who everyone knew was lesbian got out there, dragging her girlfriend with her. "You think he's a failure? Check it out. I'm the real failure here." Her and her girlfriend began slow dancing and kissing.

Milo carried his boyfriend out there too. The crowd parted so there would be more room. They did the same.

At once, all the LGBTQ+ couples came out and danced with each other.

"Just do what I do, okay?" Kai said, intending to join them.

Cole nodded his head without hesitation. Kai got up and offered his hand to Cole. He took it and they started. slow dancing again.

This really pissed Lou off. "Stop this shit!" he screamed at them.

Kai could see that Cole's hands were shaking. "It's okay." he whispered.

Cole took a few deep breaths to steady himself. They both instinctively leaned in, and this time, Lou didn't stop them. Even when he was yelling and screaming. He didn't stop them.

All this time Lou was yelling and slurring, one of the teachers was still in the building. It was the detention teacher.

Now she didn't love Cole, but seeing one of her students like this really pissed her off. So she called security.

"Clear a path!" some kid shouted, and the kids blocking the doorway moved so there was a clear shot a Lou.

"You're not allowed in the high school after hours without an authorized permission from the principal."

They dragged Lou out and dumped him in the parking lot. Some started clapping and cheering. Then everyone else joined in.

The teacher who made all this happen got up. "Kids, I'm so sorry about what happened tonight. Especially to you." she looked at Cole. The couples had stopped dancing and kissing and were just holding hands.

"It's okay." he said. "My dad is a retarded bastard."

And the prom went on. When a slow song came on, Kai and Cole danced. They leaned in and there was no stopping them.

And Cole Brookstone wished he could stay there forever. Dancing and kissing his boyfriend, Kai Smith.
