I find Akasha and tell her I'm not feeling well. Then I hide out in my room until it's time for our departure the next day. There's no way I can face the Prince now.

He saw.

But what did he see, exactly? What was that?

I don't get much sleep for the next few nights. My mind is too busy racing with thoughts about what happened. About what's happening to me.

The week following the Gala, I'm all nerves when Ida finally calls me into her office.

She looks like she's made of stone. I take the seat facing her, my stomach twisted into knots.

"You'll be studying with Cassandra from this point forward," she tells me, her tone serious. "You'll meet with her for a few hours each day, Monday to Friday, and she will report on your progress."

My progress..? Has Ashley not mentioned anything about the Gala? I can't find anything in Ida's face or demeanour that suggests she knows.

Yet, I think, grimly.

I thank her and get up, scurrying out as fast as I can.

"Oh and Devon," she adds, just as I reach the doorway.

I turn around to face her cold stare.

"Don't ever let me catch you listening to my private conversations again."
