2 weeks before
"Oh my god, Caitlin! It's beautiful!" I say
She had gotten me a present. It was a necklace that had a little picture of us inside the trinket.
She had also given me a lot of other things, but this one was super special.
"So, I know that your mom has given you a Tiffany & Co present for Christmas for a really long time, even if it was just a charm or something really small And I know that you are probably feeling really homesick. And you are probably going to get mad and want to return it, but please keep it!" I say, handing her the little blue box.
"Oh my god, Rory!! You didn't!!" She says
"Open it!" I say
As she was opening the gift, it would have shown the silver necklace that had to hearts on the end with R and C carved into the hearts.
"Rory, I will wear it to ever single game and never take it off! I promise!" She says giving me a big hug
"This is like the sweetest thing ever. And I know that this must have cost you a fortune, so I will have to get you something big for your birthday, and just so you know, you wouldn't have to get me anything and I would still love you, the same."
"Thanks, C. But never take it off!" I say
"I promise."
Present time
"Rory!" Coach Bluder yells
"Uh- oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" I say, I had been zoned out for such a long time.
"Something on your mind?" She says
"Um- yeah. Actually."
"Here, take a seat kid." She says, as we sit on the seats in the arena.
Luckily, it was my solo practice, so no one else was there.
"What's going on?" She says
"Well, Caitlin is having her super big tests coming up. And, well. I just- I just don't know how to be there for her and support her, you know?"
"I get it, Rory. But right now, all that she probably needs is a distraction. Just get her cheap ice cream and go over, and help her study. I promise it will work."
"I know, I just feel bad."
"Well, go now than! I think you did good enough in practice today to leave a little early!"
"Thanks, Coach!"
"Yup." She says, as I run out of the gym.
As I look down at my phone, I see 9 unread texts from Caitlin

I'm really stressed for this test next week.
Are you at practice?
Are you coming after?
What time does your practice end?
Business is kicking me in the ass right now.
I know that you might not know what I'm doing in my class right now, but even just being there would help.
Can you text me after practice?
