Dedication: This chapter is dedicated to one of my best friends: Samuel. He has no relation to the Sam in the book as I didn’t know him before I wrote about Sam in the book LOL. However this chapter was based on a life experience we went through together. Thanks Sammie. Samkee <3

*Khayla’s Point of View*

I managed to find a sitter for Leah in the form of her grandmother. I hadn’t really spoken to my mum, Sandra since the whole ‘Trey’ incident occurred. I believe it was because she was disappointed in me. I think one of the worse things that could happen to you from your parents is feeling their disappointment. Like a scar, it stays with you forever. You can’t get rid of something like that because it happened all you can do is work to change it.  That is what I try to do everyday.

...Ring...Ring...”Welcome to the T-Mobile Voice mail Service”...

That was all I heard from Trey’s phone ever since he left. I left countless amounts of voice messages, texts, emails and even lengthy messages via Facebook and Twitter. No reply. I knew he was alive though. His mother would call me every two days or so asking over Leah. The conversation was blunt and sharp as though her own feelings for me left her. I was just Trey’s baby’s mother now. Not Khayla the future daughter in law like I hoped. I erased that from my future with one simple mistake.

I picked up Khayla and placed in her in her pram. I was just about to fasten her straps when she reached out for my eyes. As I looked in my daughter’s eyes, all I saw as Trey. Fastening her as quickly as I could, I then reached for my phone and went to the bathroom. I needed him back.

*Trey’s Point of View*

“Hello?” Private  number was calling. I picked up only because my phone was in my hand and I accepted before I had the chance to reject it.

“Hello? Is this Trey?”

“What do you want?”

*Ethan’s Point of View*

“Kion, gimme 5!” Kion’s little hands reached up to my open palm.

“Yeah boyyyy!” I said again praising him. He was eating some mash which previously he didn’t enjoy but now for some reason, he was gulping it down.

I felt my phone vibrate around on the side and instantly picked it up whilst feeding Kion.

“Hello?” Sasha. I knew she bell me.

“It’s Sasha.”

“Oh yeah, yeah...what you saying doe?” I had to make out that I didn’t have her number saved in my phone. I didn’t want her to make some big deal out of it.

I remember the time when I hugged her and she was smiling for about three days according to my sources. Gassed much?

“Nothing much still, you still on coming to my shubz?”

“Yeah, im still coming.”

“Thats good – gonna be some people there. Hint hint.”

“Like who?”

“Just some people that you may like. Haha.”

“Fine fine.”

Even though Sasha liked me herself and she wanted something to happen, sometimes I felt as though she knew nothing between us would happen as she was always trying to set me up with some girls.

*Trey’s Point of View*

“Is Leah okay?” I asked down the phone. Khayla had been crying down the receiver to me for about ten minutes and in between gasps she had expressed how sorry she was etc. That for me was a typical response of someone upset.

“Yeah...she’s fine....”

“Khayla listen I don’t want to be with you right now but that doesn’t mean I don’t love you.”

Her sobs became more uncontrollable as she heard my words. I wanted to cry along with her and talk through our problems but this couldn’t be talked through. It wasn’t just a simple lie. It was a chapter of my life.

“Listen, I’ll talk you later yeah.” I said. She was still sobbing.

“Khayla!” Still no response.

I hung up and as I sat in Shanika’s living room, I took in my surroundings. Her cream room was filled with brown furniture which wasn’t immaculate but was of a decent standard. I could feel the ceiling move as upstairs, I was certain that her and my uncle were getting “busy”. As I exited the living room, I walked down the passage to get to the front door.  Undoing the top lock, I heard footsteps come out of Shanika’s room.

“Trey!”

“Yeah?” My uncle’s head was popping out the door.

 “Where you going?”

“Outside for air and QUIET!” By the way, I looked at him; he knew I knew what he was doing.

“Alright, don’t go home though.”

“Yeah whatever Unc.”

I exited the door and left the door slightly ajar so I could come back in.

As soon as the fresh air hit me, it was as though my thoughts became clearer. I was a single man again with a child who I had to provide for somehow whilst being in love with my baby mother still. That’s baggage.

*Khayla’s Point of View*

Clearing up my face as best I could, I exited the bathroom and dealt with Leah who was sitting patiently in her pushchair still.

“Hey baby girl, mummy is going to take you to Grandmas then Mummy is going to have some fun for once.”

Really what I wanted to say was: “Hey baby girl, mummy just fu*ked up her relationship with your daddy so now mummy is going to get so sh*t faced that she can’t remember her own name”

I gathered my bag of essentials and as I began to walk out the door with my eyes still marked with black mascara, I thought nothing could go worse so why bother fix it.

............................Party Time.......................................

“Khayla, it wasn’t your fault.”

“It was. I shouldn’t have lied to him.”

“Yeah you shouldn’t have but you did it for his benefit.”

“I know.”

Sasha and I were in her room above from the drink-up. After I dropped off Leah at my mum’s, I came straight over looking like a mess still. Sasha was re-doing my hair and I re-applied my make up.

“Girl, don’t think about it tonight.”

“Why not?”

“It’s just a party and you deserve to have fun.”
