I became nervous the second the light from the sun had quickly disappeared. We were now trudging through the jungle in the dark, which was dangerous with the careers still out there.

But we kept walking away, only stopping when the fallen tribute montage began playing overhead.

We all tensed up as we saw our friends faces in the sky.

Blight, Mags, Wiress, Woof, Cecelia... so many victors had died in just two days.

I reached out and grabbed Finnick's hand to comfort him. I knew he was still hurting from the loss of Mags and the Jabberjays hadn't helped. Our hands remained locked together until we reaching the lightning tree.

Beetee stopped in front of the tree and marveled. "Minimal charring...impressive conductor."

He moved to kneel next to the base of the tree. He placed his wire coil on the ground and began to explain more of the technical parts of the plan.

"Typically, a strike of lightening contains five billion joules of energy. We don't wanna be anywhere in its vicinity when it hits."

He wrapped a part of the wire around the base of the tree. Then he passed off the coil to Katniss.

"You girls should get going."

Peeta stepped up at once and gave an unsure look.

"I'm with them as a guard." He stated.

Beetee shook his head, "You're staying here to protect me and tree."

"No, I'm going with her." He said forcefully.

"Zach will go with them as a guard," I said trying to end the argument. I looked at Zach who nodded. I wasn't keen on leaving his side but I knew he would be in good hands with Johanna.

"But-"

"Is there a problem here?" Finnick asked. Katniss gave a wary look to Peeta who stayed silent.

"No," Peeta said, "there's no problem."

"Peeta, Finnick and I will stay guard over Beetee while you three take the wire." I said.

While the two tributes kissed goodbye, Finnick grabbed my hand and pulled her to the side a little.

"They were planning something." He whispered quietly in my ear. I nodded, agreeing.

"Once we get rid of the careers we're the only tributes left. I think they were planning on striking first."

He nodded agreeing with me. We watched as Zach, Katniss and Johanna disappeared through the tree with the coil of wire.

As soon as they were out of sight, Beetee began working. He started wrapping the wire around the tree.

"What is he doing?" Peeta asked. I shrugged.

"Smart guy stuff." I concluded. I had noticed that Beetee was wrapping the coil around a spear like stick. He was also testing the force field with a few rocks. I had never been actually told how we were to escape the arena but I assume that's what he was working on.

Suddenly there was a snap and a loud boom. We grabbed our weapons alert.

"Katniss." Peeta said looking at the cut wire. I turned and saw Beetee lying on the ground.

"He hit the force field!" Finnick said alarmed. Peeta immediately took off into the trees after Katniss.

"Peeta!" I called after him. I looked at Finnick who was looking around for the careers. I ran up towards him and grabbed his face, and kissed him. He looked at me confused.
