Saving the light

This Christmas felt like a dream.
My best friends were expecting a baby.
I would soon marry the love of my life.
And the man that had caused me so much pain was finally gone.

I almost felt some inner peace.
Except the burning truth that there was still one left.
The two last Hollingworths.
Brother and Sister.
Doomed to be enemies.

I actually had tried to talk to Leonidas.
To convince him that he could change this miserable faith of the family.

That no one could tell him what to do anymore.
He was as free as me.
But he wouldn't listen.
He driftet off more and more.
Consumed by the beliefs my family had fed him.
Bound to this cursed family name.

I felt some kind of pity for him.
I always had some kind of hope to be able to rescue at least him.

But it was hopeless and I would find out right away.

It was peaceful how we all sat in the living room.
We had just finished dinner.
All in our best clothes to celebrate the news.
Outside layed a lot of snow.
It was magical.

Until a strange feeling creeped up my spine.
I felt weird.
Something was off.
I looked over to Tom.
He was already looking at me.
His face told me he had the same feeling.
But none of us could react.

The back door bursted in a million pieces.
Everyone stepped back but before anyone could get out their wands spells were flying around the room.

I could clearly see a little group of people standing in the door.
In the middle a tall skinny man.
I couldn't see him straight, but I knew who it was.

„Elli!"

I heard Pansy scream and someone pushed me.
As I turned around I saw Pansy laying on the ground holding her belly.
My eyes widened.
I heard screams and yells.

Finally Tom and Marvolo had their wands and fired back.
But all I could see how Pansy cried in pain.
Holding her belly.

Something in me snapped.
My breathing slowed down.
I took a last look at Pansy to make sure someone looked after her.
As soon as Eve was next to her I turned around and startet to run.

I ran out the door and after the men that were now on a run.

„Elli no!"

I could hear Tom yell after me.
But I didn't cared anymore.
Rage flooded my body.

Now it was him or I.

My bare feet rushed through the cold snow.
The black dress flowing behind me.
I could see him.
I knew it was him.
This blueish gray cloak.
Ugly ass hell.
I fired spell after spell at him while running.

He didn't even fired back.

„Come back you coward! Face me! You want me? I'm right here! You can run but you can't hide!"

I yelled into the snowy night.
I couldn't feel my feet anymore.
But I still ran.
I had to catch him.
There was no other way.
This would end.
Now!

As I reached the clearing where Tom had brought me for our first date I spotted him.
He had stopped running.
His long brown hair full of snow.
Panting he turned around to me.
His face was one of pure hate and disgust.

But seeing my face let him step back.

„You let him die!"

He yelled.

„He deserved it! I gave you the chance to be better Leonidas! But you chose this path"

He raised his wand at me.

„You know you can't win!"

I laughed hysterically.
I stepped closer.
He stepped backwards.
He fired one spell after another.
I blocked every one of them.
He gave me no time to fire back.
He was so desperate.

The spells got worse and worse.
Curses that were unspeakable.
I could hear heavy footsteps behind me.
Cracking in the woods.

This broke my defence.
It could have been one of his men.

I looked back just to see Tom's enraged face.
I sighed relieved but as I turned back around it was to late.

He had taken my distraction to his favour.
The only thing I could see was a green lightning hitting me.

My body arched in pain.
A terrifying scream escaped my lungs.
My body was shaking.

But I was alive.
How was this possible?
As the pain slowly subsided I could hear a loud crack.

The necklace around my neck bursted into a million pieces.
I could hear a deep and painful grunt behind me.

My head snapped back and I saw Tom on his knees.

The necklace.
I remembered his words.

„You're carrying a part of me"

The realisation hit me.
This had saved me.

Tom was holding his chest and slowly tried to get back up.

„Elli. Elli are you-„

his voice broke.

This was to much.
Not only Pansy.
Now also Tom.
This man wouldn't do any more harm to my family.

I turned around.
My grip around my wand getting harder.
I looked in the deeply terrified face of Leonidas.

„How is this possible?"

he said shocked.
I raised my wand at him.
He tried to defend himself but I had him disarmed in just minutes.
I just stood a couple steps before him.
Looking down at him.

„This will have an end now"

I said calm but bitter.
I slowly raised my wand at the kneeling and wining man in front of me.

Suddenly someone grabbed my arm.

„Don't."

I looked back to Tom.
He stood behind me.

„But-„

my hands were shaking.
I had to end this.
I couldn't risk that anyone of them would get hurt because of me.

„No. You're not gonna do it. I'm not letting you go down that path."

Tom said calm.
He slowly took my wand out of my hand and turned me to face him.
I only now felt the icy tears runing down my face.

„That's not you.
You're the good one.
I'm not gonna let your soul get plastered with something like this.
I couldn't live with the guilt of knowing I let you do such a thing."

he said pressing me against him.

„That's the burden I will carry.
I'll do anything for you my light"

he murmured while pressing my head against his chest with one hand and raising his wand with the other.

I could see or hear anything because I only focused on the humming coming from Tom to distract me.

After some moments he picked me up and pressed me against him.

„Let's go home. I can't have my future wife freezing can I?"

He said in a calm tone and carried me back to the house.

I didn't looked back.
But I knew from the feeling inside me that it was over.
In this moment I was the last Hollingworth.
