Gloria
At Anastasia's words, Gloria slopped her drink loudly, looking disinterested, like she wasn't part of this conversation. I slowly turned to face Anastasia, my expression blank, but the look in my eyes was cold and hard.
"What is that supposed to mean?!" I narrowed my eyes at the little busybody.
"Hey! There's no need to act all defensive; I meant nothing by what I said," she gestured around with her fingers, displaying her long pink-painted nails.
Her preppy voice grated on my nerves, and all I wanted to do was gouge her eyes out.
"Are you saying my husband is a flirt, a cheater!"
The octave of my voice rose. Her words weren't meant to offend, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't offensive to me.
Maybe I am taking it too hard because of my current situation with Billy, but what she said rubbed me the wrong way and pissed the hell out of me.
"Hey, calm down." Gloria decided to get in involved when she saw how pissed I looked.
Anastasia wasn't ready to back down from the confrontation. She was the kind of woman who would never admit they were wrong and always wanted to prove their actions were right.
"What is your problem?" She gestured with her hands, her expression like I was being unreasonable and picking a fight with her for no reason.
"My problem is that you always say dumb things without thinking like your brain is made up of air," I snapped, glaring at the redheaded woman.
All the anger and frustrations I managed to bury inside me came pouring out and, unfortunately, on the wrong person.
Anastasia's jaw dropped, and she stared at me in disbelief. Gloria also gave me a displeased look, but I didn't care. I was pissed, and I was trying to prove a point.
What point?
I will get back to you on that once I am calm.
Anastasia took a wildly exaggerated deep breath like she was in a yoga class. A look of superiority came over her face like she was about to deal with someone far beneath her station, and she didn't have the energy to waste words on her.
Her air of arrogance wasn't helping me to calm down.
"Look, I don't know what bug crawled up your ass and died that you are acting like a woman who hasn't been fucked in a while, but whatever your shit is, please do not spray it on me. That I came to your house doesn't give you the right to insult me."
"That is the door!" I pointed at it.
"Isla, that is enough!" Gloria looked very displeased with me, but I didn't care.
Anastasia stared at me coldly before speaking.
"Are you asking me to leave your house?!"
"No, she is not!"
"Yes!"
Gloria and I answered at the same time.
"Ladies, what is going on here?!"
We had been so focused on our issues that we hadn't realised how high our voices had gotten, which drew the attention of some of the guests.
Billy, Richard, Johnny, Anastasia's husband and the root cause of the problem stood at the kitchen door.
Kate.
"Nothing," I growled, pouring myself another glass of wine. I drank it at once without looking at anyone. I could feel Billy's eyes on me, but I ignored him.
