"Shit! Shit! Shit!"
I flew off the counter like I had the super power of flight, scrabbled around for my clothes like a head less chicken, fighting to get decent before who ever heading towards the kitchen gets here.
I just buttoned up my blow in time for Kate to make her appearance at the door.
Fuck! What is she doing back home so early? Ten minutes earlier and she would have seen something to make her blind.
"Hi," I greeted her over cheerfully, looking like nothing happened with no hair out of place. Or so I thought.
"You okay?" She was looking at me strangely.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I asked awkwardly in a shaky tone, my hands fluttering around as if jobless.
"Your hair, it looks as if a rat to a trip through it,"she pulled off her heels and made her way to a seat.
"Yeah, Bryan was having a fun day pulling it," I joked. "You are back early?" I quickly changed the subject, brushing down my hair with my fingers. My action slightly agitated.
She relaxed back on the seat and threw her feet to the next, and heaved a tired sign. "Yeah, my publisher cancelled on me, after making me wait for him for hours at the coffee shop. Some family emergency came up," she made an air quote as if to say the publisher made that up.
"Sorry to hear that," I tried being sympathetic. Probably would have choked on it by how fake I sounded. "Would you like a cup of coffee?"
"Yes, please. What about Bryan?"
"He is playing with his daddy in the play room," I answered and turned around to put some coffee beans into the coffee machine.
"Billy is such a wonderful father, and a husband too," she gushed making turn to look at her. She had this love sick look on her face as she continued to gush about what a wonderful man her husband is. There is practically no one like him.
I put my hand to my mouth and acted as if I was throwing up and when she looked towards pretended to be busy with her coffee.
"Here," I placed the hot coffee in front her. "I will go do the laundry," I started towards the door with the intention of leaving.
"You haven't done the laundry?" She asked with a deep scowl on her face. "What have you been doing all morning?" she fired without waiting for a response from me.
Fucking your husband, I retorted in my mind.
"I had to take the kids to school."
"What! Why?"
Is she being serious right now. Breathe Bella, I told myself.
"I couldn't let them go alone," I answered softly.
"Are you saying that I am a bad mother because I asked them to take the bus?" She was watching me like a hawk, her hands folded across her chest as she waited for my response.
"Hi, honey, you are back early," Billy walked in just in time to save the day.
"Yeah, my publisher cancelled on me," she flicked a look at Billy before returning her eyes on me as if waiting for the answer to the question she asked.
"What is going on?" Billy looked from me to his wife.
Kate glared at me before looking away to focus on her husband. "Nothing, where is Bryan?"
"He is asleep," Billy answered with a soft smile.
"I am a little hot, I think I am gonna go for a swim," Kate got up from her seat headed towards me.
