Chapter sixteen: He returns early

Josh

I felt good inside helping my daughter with her assignment. Still getting used to her not speaking, the smile on her face when she got a particular Math problem right melted my heart that all I wanted to do was pull her into my arms and kiss every part of her face until she is full of kisses.

Will probably weird her out.

The kids have had dinner and ready to turn in. Sophie and Josh are in their room, Bryan and I are playing hide and seek around the whole house as I tried to get him into the bath. Dave is yet to come back which is beginning to give me concerns and Kate is still locked in her office.

"Come here you rascal!" I yelled playfully at Bryan who stood few feet away from me in his birthday suit wearing a big smile on his face.

"Catch me!!!" His brown eyes twinkled with more mischief as he dared me to catch him. For a boy who had been a little shy when we met, he sure have lost those inhibitions right now.

I made a dive for his little skinny body, but his small feet was quicker than my dive. He screamed and ran off laughing.

I am too old for this, I thought to myself while breathing a little too fast. I looked up the stairs to find Josh watching me, an amused expression on his face which quickly disappeared as soon as he realised that I was looking in his direction. He tried to play it cool pretending that he wasn't watching me, and moved back into his room.

Finally I caught Bryan in my grasp and dragged him kicking and screaming towards his bathroom.

"I don't wanna shower!" He whined in a tiny voice trying to wiggle free from my gasp.

"Quite!" I scolded in a loud stern voice that stopped his wiggling and he stared down at me with a cute pout like he was going to cry.

I rolled my eyes at him trying to manipulate me and put his naked butt inside the bathtub and turned on the shower.

I allowed the cold water splash him to teach him a lesson which sent him screaming and running into my arm.

I laughed and caught him in my arms.

"I am sorry!" I apologised through my laughter putting him back in the bath tub. He was a little hesitant to go under the water spray until I touched a little on him to let him know it was okay.

It was a little heart touching how he kept clinging to me in his fear even though I was the one that played the prank on him.

I showered him quickly and got him out into bed. His room was like a Disney prince room. The wall designed with kids pleasing stuffs. Star Wars cartoons, super heroes and then their is the fun light which I turned on after I tucked him into bed.

He dozed off as soon as his head hit the pillow bringing a soft smile to my face and reminding me of his father.

It is very unfortunate that you belong to them, I thought to myself as I leaned down to kiss his forehead, his face already relaxed in sleep.

I quietly tip toed out of his room and closed the door. I went to Josh to find him at his desk munching on some snacks and playing his game. He had his head set on so he didn't know when I entered his room. The room I just cleaned earlier today was already looking a mess. His clothes from school today was abandoned on the ground.

"Josh!"

He didn't hear.

"Josh!!!" I snapped louder finally getting his attention.

He paused his video game and turned to look at me.

"What!" He looked irritated at being disturbed.

I shot him a hard glare to let him know I won't accept being spoken to that way. His rude angry expression dissolved immediately.
