Ira looked at all the arrangements again and sighed in relief that everything for this event has been in motion as planned. Although her life might have been in pieces even with all the planning and implementing she still would make sure that today, this event would go as she planned. She observed the event progressing smoothly with out any glitches with maximum participation from the clients and delegates attending the gathering and sat down in the back, checking her phone.
She saw a couple of missed calls from her family and thought to call them later only to change her mind looking at the number of calls she missed. She answered the call and gushed about how her event was a success only to be put down in her place with bitter words from her own family " You might be flying high about your career but in the end you are nothing without having your own husband and children. Its like being a bird with clipped wings", those words made a few tears creep out of her eyes.
She walked out to the high rise balcony in the hall and looked down at the well lit city lights. The cool air outside was far more better then the stuffy air inside. She closed her eyes feeling the wind on her face, shedding the rest of the tears until she heard a deep voice and a whiff of familiar spice and citrus cologne
Him: Good job in there Ms. Ira
She wiped her tears in hurry and turned back, smiling at that person while putting on her usual brave face, asking if there's anymore help required while that man looked at her with a scrutinizing gaze looking into her soul.
He took a few steps towards her invading the personal space, clearly looking at her grief stricken face.
Him- Do me a favor
He walks in closer
Him: Save me from your façade Ms. Ira. You can enjoy fooling others with your "I'm cheerful" mask .... but, news flash ...
(Leaning towards her ears, he whispers)
Him: I can see right through you
He stood there with her for a second looking into her eyes until he turned, walking away leaving her startled and in disbelief. She still had tingles where his warm breathe touched her ear.
After her usual pep talk to herself she walked inside the event hall, trying to mingle with her coworkers, putting on her charming persona only to receive a mocking arrogant grin from that man, while she hid herself from him for the rest of the night not able to digest the truth that this man managed to figure her out in a second while it took ages for others.
