Chapter 6

Ira POV

It has been a month since Arjun has joined the Hyderabad office but what surprised me was he speaks only when it is necessary and even when he does open his mouth to share his thoughts or opinions in a formal ambience he uses minimal words.

There are many times over the past month where we were in same place at the same time. Being a HR and a women employee I interact with all of them and with a knowledge of 5 languages I can communicate with diversified people.

Usually during lunch, the team invites me to have lunch with them and I do join if I am not busy with meetings or work. Being part of the same business unit we both end up sitting on the same table or closer by but usually the team only gets a few words out of him and when that happens I can see a very visible contrast between us. While I share my lunch with others, digging into close collegues tiffin boxes and chatting the lunch time away he remains quiet just observing. I tried to share my box with him too but all I got was a polite "No, Thank you, I am done".

As the other employees follow the 2 day a week or 3 day a week working structure, I dont see all of them everyday other then Arjun. He is the only one who is there on all the 5 days that the office is open.  There are times I plan to sit alone as the people I normally sit with is not present, I see him eating his salad and sandwich alone, I wanted to ask if he wanted me to join him but seeing his intense gaze intimidates me to no end, so I shut up and I eat while reading a book or a blog.

It was almost end of the year and people did bank a lot of annual leaves which would expire after a certain number and with April coming up we were all planning for an office trip. I planned the specifics and put up a presentation to all the team leads and they all loved the places I came up with the trip planner. The places were decided and we had scheduled a formal meeting where we would announce the specifics to the team.

I went to get the trip manager from the reception and they had begun the meeting. When I walked in with him I saw that most of the places were taken, the only seat remaining was beside Arjun as he sits in the front without hesitance and gives his full attention while some people like to have a quick nap during the meetings. It was a meeting to announce the trip but we kept it as a surprise, so hopefully everybody wakes up when we announce the details.

The HR manager who surpervises me announces the trip, the days and the specifics which gets excited hoots and claps. She actually gives me the entire credit and asks me to share the other details. I get up and I announce about the itenary which I would be sending them through the email along with all these details discussed. By the end of it everybody went out of the meeting rooms with a smile on their faces and excited compliments for organizing this.

While I was taking my stuff from the table and leaving, he got up with me to leave too.

Arjun: Ira ?

I was worried about this, I was sad if he is going to say something which would dampen my spirits. I turned towards him and gave him my formal smile. His jaw clenched but again he had a serious expression

Arjun:  Good Work

And he put his hand in front of him so that I could shake it. I looked surprised and smiled with all my heart, shaking his hand.

Me: Thank you

See, again with that sudden spark when our hands met. Either I am imagining it or I am getting all hormonal

Silly Ira 

I chided myself but when I looked at his face I was shocked. He had an amused expression, which means he must have heard me calling myself silly.

Me: Please tell me you did not just hear me calling myself silly

I mentally kicked myself for blabbering the question out

Arjun: Yes 

He said that and walked out while I slapped my forehead at my sillyness. The usual, normal, composed, HR acts insane around this mysterious stranger. It has been two weeks since that happened and I was working late to book tickets and ensure there are no hiccups.

I just finished a meeting with travel consultant when our office boy looked uncomfortable

Me: What happened ?

Office Boy: Please follow me 

It was after 7 and Arjun was here but he was not working, infact he was resting his head on the table supported by his hands. I looked on worried as he looks different then normal. I slowly call out his name and I get no reply. I ask office boy to shake him so that he gets up but Arjun has intimidated the office boy so much that he looked hesitant.

I slowly walked to him and put my hand on his shoulder shaking him. He slowly got up and looked at me. His eyes looked red, oh god !! Is he going to kill me for waking him up. He walked a step and before we know he collapsed. Me and the office boy managed to hold him before he hit the ground. 

It was then that I realize that he is burning up.  I look up his emergency contact number but it went on voice mail. I looked up the current address and with the help of office boy, we both got Arjun to be checked by the building doctor and then we both went to drop him to his home.

When we were on the way I got a call back from his emergency contact person

That lady: Hi, I got a missed call

Me: Hi, Arjun is not well and has high fever. We are dropping him off to his apartment in Gachibowli, he needs to be taken care of.  Can you come there ?

That lady : Sure, I will be there

Once we got him out of the cab and towards his apartment I spot a very gorgeous women with her two children in front of me

That lady: Arjun, are you okay

He mumbled something incoherent and I looked on

Me: We can help you inside but he needs to be on medications for 3 days

That lady: Okay 

She opened the door with the lock and I put him on the bed she showed. The house look clean and it was decorated in black and grey. I rolled my eyes at that as it suited his personality. 

That lady: Hi I am Naina, thank you from bringing him home. I would be much more warm once I know he is okay. I would love to thank you with a treat. 

Me: Sure

She took my phone number and I went out of the apartment. Once I took the same cab to my home, I wondered who that women is to him, he is unmarried based on his records. 

Wait, are they a couple who live together ?
