Ira POV
The event was a success, ofcourse leaving out the bitter conversation with my family and ofcourse the occassional intense eye locks with Arjun rest all went okay. The vendor who was picked by me for organizing dinner and deserts were appreciated too.
The employees and the staff were slowly leaving. Me and my team member were sitting with the management overseeing the final bills and providing instructions for checking out etc. Once that was done I had my dinner by then most of them left but to my surprise Arjun came with his plate and sat beside me to eat.
We sat and ate in comfortable silence until he broke it
Arjun: Where is your team member ?
Me: We finished all the final checklist which was supposed to be done, he had his dinner before so he left once everything was done
Arjun: Why didnt you have your dinner before with most of them ?
Me: You didnt have your dinner either ?
Arjun: I never found time
Me: I had a lot to check on at that time, so I did not feel like eating. To nervous to eat when there is a lot to do.
He nodded at that and continued eating
Me: Didnt your team force you to have dinner with them ?
Arjun: They did, but I was not too hungry. I just pushed my food around the plate with them. Now I am eating as I want.
Me: Arjun
He looked into my eyes when I called his name
Arjun: Yes, Ira
Me: You should not be evesdropping on people's phone conversations
Arjun: As I said before you are pretty loud and the phone was in speaker
Me: I thought I was alone
Arjun: In a public place ? Where anybody could walk in and out ?
That shut me up, its true. I was in a public space.
Arjun: I saw you limping before that. With each step you took there was a grimace on your face.
Me: These are new shoes that I am wearing, it was hurting my leg
Arjun: You should have checked before
Me: It was a last minute gift and I had to wear it
Arjun: From ?
Me: What ?
Arjun: Gift from whom ?
Me: My roomate, she gave me this as a good luck for today but in her excitement to gift me these she forgot a little detail that not every brand suits my feet. They are very sensitive.
Arjun: Okay
We both finished eating and I packed up the materials which I would be taking back with me.
Arjun: How are you going ?
Me: I called a cab, its confirmed and on the way
He nodded
Me: What about you ?
Arjun: Well I would be booking my cab now, was waiting until everybody in my team left. They wanted to hang around and have fun
Me: I understand, they want to use every opportunity to just break free and chill. By the way, I can drop you on the way in my cab. I can add your stop, if you book it now it would be late.
Suprisingly he did not reject that idea
Once the cab came I put on my office bag and before I held the stationary I carried Arjun beat me to it. When I started to complain that I can carry them, his glare shut me up.
We walked to the cab and sat beside each other like last time and the cab started moving
Arjun : Can I ask you a favor ?
Me: Okay, depends on what you ask
Arjun: You are good with kids. You volunteer with day care center, I have a favor regarding that.
Me: Okay .. what exactly ?
Arjun: You saw how my own team members were intimidated by me and showed me the mirror. Now, with your help they warmed up to me so I was wondering if you could help me with my sister's kids.
Me: Your niece and nephew ?
Arjun: Yes, I take care of them when my sister is busy. I do the needful but they are walking on eggshells around me. I realized they are scared of me and not free.
Me: Okay, can I meet them first ?
Arjun: Anyways Naina was asking me when would I bring you home for lunch ? That way you can meet my sister and kids at the same time. So tommorow then ?
Me: Okay but inform Naina
Arjun: I can tell her later
Me: Arjun, women take time organizing stuff and prepare. You cannot spring them on them last minute
Arjun: Fine
He dialled his sister's number and kept it on speaker
Arjun: Naina, I invited Ira for lunch tommorow. Hope that is okay with you ?
Naina: Arjun, you jackass you should have given me information before hand. Oh no, there is so much to do. You better get here soon, we need to go to the market and ...
I gave him a I told you so look
Me: Naina
Naina: Oh shit, you are there too ? I am so sorry for my ranting
Me: Its a normal reaction to a sudden information
I heard her sigh
Naina: Yes
Me: Dont worry, we just wrapped up the event. We are on the way and I dont think I would make it to lunch until 1:30 pm, so dont stress to much. Oh, and I am on a diet so just some comfy home cooked meal of dal chaawal.
Naina was much more convinced now and hung up
Arjun: Are you seriously on a diet ?
Me: No, I am not. But I dint want her to stress and over cook
Me: But do help her out okay, you do know how to cook or help with cooking right ?
Arjun: You underestimate me
The confidence with which he said that, I cracked up
Arjun: Smile suits you more than the tears
He said it casually but did Arjun just compliment me ?
