A shadow over the sea

—What a pain, please... Doesn't Fuku have any more servants that won't stop recycling you?! That's the third time you've shown up. –I shouted angrily.

—You'll be rude! You may have the title of princess, but your attitude has nothing to do with one. –Sonata pointed her finger at me. –But don't worry, I'll sort this out! –Exclaimed the brunette as she created a gale in my direction.

With no time to react, in the blink of an eye I was already in the skies. The wind wouldn't let me move and dragged me along like a rag doll. My head was spinning from so much movement, and it only relaxed when I was suspended in the sky above the sea.
There, still and dizzy, I saw Sonata watching me as she laughed. She was flying just a few centimetres away from the sphere of air where Yuu was. That infuriated me. I could accept her treating me like a toy, after all, I am her target; but I would never accept her bringing Yuu into this. He doesn't deserve to suffer because of me.

—No... It's not fair... –I whispered as I clenched my fists tightly.

—What did you say, little pink sardine? –The villainess asked, coming closer to me. –If you cry out in pain, do it out loud, I want to hear it. –She added as she stood in front of me.

—I said it's not fair! –Full of indignation and despair, I couldn't help screaming. At that moment, without knowing how or why, a golden light appeared on my forehead; blinding and (strangely) weakening Sonata.

—What... what is... this energy? –The winged woman muttered as she ran out of energy. –That mark... The Panthalassa mark... You... –And after those words, Sonata disappeared into brown feathers.

The instant I vanished, the wind that held me aloft disappeared, as did the sphere in which Yuu was held captive. We both fell into the water, but unlike me, the Japanese boy was still unconscious.
Crashing into the sea, my body transformed. When the bubbles dissipated, I saw the boy's body sinking into the sea. Seeing that, I couldn't help but feel déjà vu, so (without thinking twice) I swam as fast as I could in his direction.

—Yuu! –I shouted in his direction, opening my arms to catch him.

The instant I had him in my grasp, I clutched him to me with all my might, fearful that at some point he might slip from my grasp. Quickly, I swam to the surface, and when I reached it, I did not hesitate to come out into the open air. I looked both ways trying to see where the nearest beach was. Locating it, I headed there at once.
When I got there, noticing that there was no one around, I positioned Yuu's body on the sand. Lying next to him, I nervously watched for any reaction from him. I didn't care if he saw me as a mermaid, that was the least of it. I wanted to know that he was okay.

—Please, Yuu, wake up..." I whispered in despair. Slowly my body dried up and I returned to my human form, and as fate would have it, Yuu woke up. -Yuu! -I couldn't help but jump up and hug him.

—Domoto? You... crush me... –The blue-stranded one commented.

—I'm sorry. –I said, pulling away from him.

—What happened? –He asked as he rejoined.

—Oh, well... A very big wave threw you into the sea. –I lied a little nervously.

—It must have been a very strong wave. Thanks for saving me! If it hadn't been for you, I'm sure I wouldn't be here today. –He commented, flashing one of his bright smiles.

—That's a lie. It's my fault. –I thought with sorrow. –It's getting late, I have to go home. I'll see you Sugimoto. –I said goodbye to him as soon as he was feeling better.

—See you, Domoto. –Still sitting on the sand, the yellow-eyed man said goodbye.

At first I walked slowly, but as time went on, I sped up my pace. Tears began to well up in my eyes. Was it my fault that all this happened? Was I not strong enough to defeat Fuku? It was certain that Sonata wasn't his only servant, and even so, I couldn't defeat her without someone getting hurt.
Kairi, Yuu... They had all been hurt because of my recklessness. Why had Aqua Regina chosen me for this task?! I can't even do something as simple as friends...

Before I knew it, I was home. –I'm stupid. –I said to myself, wiping away the tears that were running down my cheeks. –I'm home! –I shouted as I entered the house.

—You took longer than usual. Did something happen? –Luchia peeked through one of the doors.

—I'd forgotten my school diary in class. I realised halfway through. I'm sorry. –I apologised as I made my way to my room.

I didn't have the energy to talk about anything. And I think that was reflected in the dinner, as both Lukia and I were in a deathly silence. No matter how hard Hippo and Luchia tried, neither of us were helping the atmosphere.
After that, Lukia went to her room and I stayed up watching TV. At some point, both Rina and Hanon appeared at home. It was clear that something was going to happen, but I wasn't sure what.

—Wow, there's a new moon today. -I thought, looking at the night sky through the window. -A new moon? -I wondered wonderingly.

—Y/N, honey, the glass of water you asked for. –Luchia commented as she handed me a crystal glass.

—Thank you. –I thanked the brunette, and then I drank the contents of the glass. –New moon... It's true... Laurent would come to kidnap Lukia on the new moon. –I spoke in my mind a bit tired. –Why... am I so sleepy? My eyelids... are too heavy... –I whispered as I made my way to the sofa, and the moment I sat down, I fell into a deep sleep.
