Claim of the sea
Sitting on a bench in front of the harbor, listening to the strong waves, I was enjoying the warm sunshine. Today was a pretty normal day: I had left school and had lunch with my parents at home, done the little homework I had left for tomorrow and walked around the city for a while.
That's why I was here, near the coast, spending what was left of the afternoon at my favorite place: the beach.
Since I was a little girl, I have always loved water in general. The rain always made me happy instead of sad, and swimming in the pool was what entertained me the most in the summer. I have never disliked salt water or chlorine, and I have never been bothered by the waves in the sea either.
There was a time when I used to go swimming at the municipal pool and, in some summers, to surf lessons. Although, to be honest, I was never the best at handling the board. I was always wobbling and rarely managed to finish surfing a wave (even though I was small).
I laughed internally at those memories. It was soon half a year before the summer and, at last, I could finish my lessons. Still, I couldn't help but look at the calendar at the thought of my favorite season.
But, against all odds, before I could count the days left before I could swim in the sea without catching a cold, a notification popped up on my phone.
—This must be a lie... –I muttered at what my eyes were seeing. –Has it really gone on for five chapters already?! –I exclaimed as I saw how Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Aqua had posted a new chapter.
This is the fifth since it started airing, I'm still surprised that they're still going for this sequel. With a plot very similar to the original and an anatomy that leaves much to be desired, I wonder how people in Japan could possibly like this.
Not to mention the fact that the protagonist is a Luchia 2.0, with no trace of her supposed Panthalassa blood, still not showing off her idol costume, and making out with the guy on duty at every turn.
—Come on! –I shouted in frustration. –This is like Boruto, everything goes to the trash here. –I complained as I finished reading the translation. –I was having a great day, and now it's ruined because of this poorly done fanfic. –I looked at the sky with resentment. –It's getting cloudy. Great! –The irony in my voice became increasingly noticeable.
The raindrops were not long in coming. The pleasant atmosphere that, moments before, disappeared very quickly. And so did my joy.
Running to avoid getting soaked, the wind began to become much more intense than it was before.
—This must be a joke! –Despite my futile attempts to get back to my house as quickly as possible, I ended up being dragged down into the sand. –Why does everything go so wrong for me?! –Before I could complain any longer about my bad luck, I caught a glimpse of a large wave in front of me.
With no time to run and no time to call for help, in a matter of seconds I was swallowed by the sea. Strong currents prevented me from rising to the surface, and the lack of air began to take its toll on me.
Tears began to flow from my eyes, melting into the salt water. My vision became blurry, and before long, images of my loved ones appeared before me. My parents, my friends, and ironically, my literary platonic loves.
—Today was definitely not my day... –I thought sadly, at the same time that my eyelids became heavier and heavier.
—You, lost soul in my kingdom, chosen for your knowledge. I charge you with the destiny of the seven seas. –A voice spoke, sounding through the noisy seabed.
My eyes opened again, this time, only to observe a beautiful lady. With golden hair, beautiful violet eyes and fair skin, the woman in front of me formed a sincere smile on her face.
Extending her arms in my direction, causing the deep, turbulent waters to light up, an immense tranquility was felt in the area.
—Y/N, now is your time to shine and return the light that was once lost in the darkness. –She whispered in my ear as she enveloped me in a warm embrace. –You know well the past, but the future, your present, is about to change. –Leaning my head on her chest, her voice began to fade as my vision grew darker. –Listen to the blood that runs through your veins and sing the song that your heart remembers. –And after saying that, the blackness invaded me completely.
—Y/N! –The scream of my name made my eyes pop open. –Hey little sister, you sure are slow at everything. –I turned to where the voice was coming from.
A girl with short hair and bangs stood in front of the door. Wearing shorts and a T-shirt, she was plugging a pair of wired headphones into her cell phone.
—It's not my fault that I want to make things right. Besides, stop calling me that Lukia! –I exclaimed indignantly. –Wait... Since when did I have a sister named that?! –I asked myself internally.
—Whatever you say. I'm going for a walk, I'll come back later. –She said and then left the way she came.
I looked around me. I was in a room full of boxes just like the ones I was holding. –When did I move? –My eyes went to the only mirror in the place. –Did I always have the hair like that? –From one moment to the next, various memories came to my mind.
But, for some strange reason, none of them fit with what I had experienced. I had never been surfing contests, even though I remembered attending many. Or celebrating my birthday with a sister, because she wasn't my sister. Even my so-called parents weren't my real parents.
My head began to hurt badly. The cardboard boxes I had in my possession, fell to the floor producing a loud clatter. My hands went to my head and my legs began to wobble, causing me to be on my knees from one moment to the next.
—Y/N! –Again, I heard voices calling me, but (this time) I didn't have enough strength to look for where they were coming from.
My breathing began to accelerate and, without realizing it, I completely lost consciousness.
