New ally
After the scene in the pool, the five of us returned to our respective classrooms (some more soaked than others). With nothing else of relevance, the hours went by and, at the end of the school day, I met up with Kairi.
At first I was going to go home straight away, because despite being in a manga, student life follows me. But Hippo, taking advantage of the fact that he was with me today, insisted that I introduce him to the other person who knew my secret. Our secret.
—Well, what did you want to talk about? If it's to find out what Shirahama's intentions are, I'm sorry, but I'm not going to tell you. –Kairi started to say when we were out of anyone's reach.
—I actually wanted to talk to you about something else... –I started to say as I put my backpack in front of me, and as I opened it, the blue penguin emerged from inside, which surprised the girl completely.
—The chattering overprotective penguin! What's he doing here?! –She exclaimed with a mixture of curiosity, indignation and surprise.
—I'm no chatterbox, no overprotector! Besides, I have a name! It's Hippo, Miss rude! –Replied the bird.
—Rude?! Rude you, you disrespectful bird! –The redhead spoke again.
—No respect?! The only person here who has no respect is you! –Said Hippo indignantly.
—That's enough! My God, you're unbearable no, the following. –I screamed in exhaustion at their childish behaviour. –I brought you here to meet Kairi, not to fight with her. –I added, staring at the penguin.
—And why did you bring him? He shouldn't be here in the first place! –The other girl spoke again.
—The thing is… –I began to mutter.
—I know your secret. –Hippo finished.
—Whaaaaaaaaaat?!!!!! –Kairi's eyes widened. –Tell me it's not true. –She whispered, grabbing my arms tightly.
—He's telling the truth. Yesterday one of Fuku's servants appeared and took Hippo as a hostage. I had no alternative and I had to transform in front of him. –I explained, sighing heavily.
—This is terrible... –Kairi said to herself as she released her grip on my arms.
—But he promised not to say anything! –I commented in the hope that she wouldn't say anything more.
—How much does he know? –She asked in utter defeat.
—Everything. –Hippo and I answered at the same time.
—All of it? –Asked the green-eyed one.
—All of it. –We both said again.
—Great... –And that's when she realised there was no turning back.
—You don't have to worry, Miss Kairi. I'll help in any way I can. I'll have your back! –Tapping his chest with one of his flippers, the penguin didn't hesitate to try to comfort the girl.
—Well, giving up won't help. Well, welcome to the team, Hippo. –She said, forming a smile of her own.
After that talk, the three of us walked along the shore of the beach. In the distance there were surfers and people admiring their show. Watching them reminded me of when Kaito was shown surfing and (in most cases) being saved or visited by Luchia in her mermaid form. It was very nostalgic for me.
Putting that memory aside, both Kairi and I decided to swim for a while in the sea, in an area away from the crowds. After everything that had happened, I needed to relax a bit. It was clear that if I didn't get some rest, my head would explode.
—So this is what you look like as mermaids… –Said the sailor when he saw us for the first time after coming into contact with the sea.
—We look fantastic, don't we? Although I have to say that I'm the prettiest one here, but you don't fall short, do you? –Kairi began to say in her usual ironic tone.
—To tell the truth, Kairi looks very pretty as a mermaid, although she looks better with red hair in my opinion. –I thought, as it was also my first time seeing her marine look. –Hey, Kairi, are you sure my only power is to change colour? –I asked after getting tired of staring at the blue mermaid's figure.
—Yes, why? –She questioned strangely.
—It's just that when Fuku showed up, he grabbed my wrist to stop me from coming to your aid. I couldn't do anything and I was very frustrated that I couldn't help. And at that moment a very bright light appeared on my forehead. Do you think it's because I have Panthalassa blood? –I narrated as I swam without any direction, but when I realised that both Hippo and Kairi had stopped, I stopped my swim.
—Hmm... I don't know. Maybe or maybe not. I don't know anything at the moment about whether Lukia has Panthalassa blood or not, and even if I did, your case is completely different. –She explained in a thoughtful manner.
As for Hippo. –I... I can't help much there either. Any Panthalassa powers you might have don't necessarily have to be related to light, as with your father. It might even be because of the power of your pearl. –He added with a slight sigh.
—What a help you are. –I shook my head from side to side as I let out a sigh as well, though this one was more exaggerated.
—Hey! –They both replied at the same time.
—By the way, Y/N. –Kairi started to say, to which I looked at her curiously. –Tomorrow there will be two charac- I mean, people, that you already know. There's no problem with you interacting with them, but for the love of God, pretend you don't know them. Got it? –Her look, as well as her face, showed seriousness.
—Good. –It was clear that this event was related to Lukia and, therefore, was important for the main plot. –Who are these people? Maybe it's Karen and Noel, or Coco and Seira. Although if it was Mikaru and Lixto I wouldn't complain at all. If that's the case... I hope Pink didn't do anything weird! –With that information present, I couldn't help but start thinking about who she was referring to.
