Strange character

—Are you sure you want to go? We can postpone it until tomorrow. The school already knows and– –Before she could say anything else, I interrupted her.

—There's no need. I'm fine, just fine. –Today was my so–called birthday, my first day of high school, and chapter one of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Aqua.

Because I do. Unfortunately for me, I am the daughter of Luchia and Kaito, and I must pretend to know nothing of their underwater lives. The fact that I know about their past and how they met when they were young makes it difficult for me not to call them by their first or last names.
Not to mention the fact that I know what happens in the first few chapters of this story. And that... is really going to be hard to avoid.

—You're just as stubborn as your father.... –Hearing the slight whisper from the chestnut, I couldn't help but laugh internally.

—But you're the stubborn one here. –I chuckled in my head. –I'd better go now. Lukia is waiting for me outside. –I commented, heading for the front door. –Goodbye. –I said goodbye as I went outside, where she was waiting for me.

—We’d better hurry, we don’t want to be late, right? –And after those words, we both set off.

Arriving at the entrance of the building, Lukia was thoughtful. Remembering what was happening in this part, she should be remembering her kiss with that jerk Kurosuna.
Moving forward a few metres so as not to be part of her scene, I bumped into someone.

—You should be more careful, new girl. –The tone the person used, behind me, managed to annoy me.

—Sorry for not seeing you among so many people. –I commented irritated.

Turning in his direction, I caught sight of a girl with reddish–brown, curly hair tied up in a ribbon. Her emerald gaze was challenging and provocatively posed, increasing my dislike of her even more.
Her tan skin stood out against mine, which was clearly paler. It wasn't the only thing that differentiated us physically though, as my irises were now a similar shade to Luchia's and Kaito's; not to mention my copper hair, which was (clearly) much shorter than hers.

—Class hasn’t started and you're already in a foul mood. Looks like you got off on the wrong foot, new girl. –The hold in her voice filled my little patience.

—Who gave you the right to talk to me like that? Besides, I have a name and it’s Y/N Domoto. –I said angry.

—Wow. Looks like the kitten pulled out her claws. –Joked the opposite. –I like you, new girl. I’m Kairi, whatever you need, count on me. –Her sudden change of attitude baffled me.

—Is it bipolar or something? –I wondered a little insecure.

But before I could say anything else, close to us we began to hear how all the girls talked about the same thing.

—They were already late in arriving... –Kairi spoke looking in the direction of two boys surrounded by some students. –They are called the White Prince and the Black Prince of the institute. Shirahama and Kurosuna. –She explained even though I already knew it.

—But look who is here… –Said Shirahama approaching in our direction. –Yesterday we didn't see each other and I was very sad, Kairi. –He commented as he leaned on her, noting the difference in height between the two of them.

—How do they know each other? –The question didn't stop running through my head, until another idea overshadowed the previous one. –Wait... Since when is there a character called Kairi?! –I exclaimed to myself at the unknown.

Already in class, during all the school hours, I realized the strange fact that that girl named Kairi, was in the same classroom as me.
Because, to my surprise, I wasn’t with Lukia. Making it much more difficult to follow the story and know when it is situated.

—This is horrible. –Being the only one who hadn't left the room yet, I sighed with resignation.

—What's horrible? –The redhead's voice startled me. –Hey, I'm not that scary. –She commented in front of me.

—Look. We just met and everything, but I’d like you to stay away from me. Do you understand? –I told her as I got out of my chair and picked up my things.

—Oh, wow. What a character you have, doll. –The way she addressed me, it bothered me.

—I wanted to be nice, but I see you can’t be talked to. –The comment didn’t seem to take her by surprise, as she only smiled before I left the room. –I just can’t stand her! –I exclaimed the moment I was far enough away for her not to hear me.

Walking through the corridors of the building, completely empty and silent, my thoughts began to spin in my mind.
Kairi could perfectly well be a supporting character, or someone created so that I could fit into the plot. But her singular aspect, compared to those of the rest, made me think that, more than secondary, her role was of protagonist.

—Lukia, what are you doing here? –Before I knew it, I ended up in the library.
There, crestfallen, was Lukia. From the looks of her, she had probably been talking to the little black prince.

—Huh? Ah... Hello Y/N. –As she turned around, she could see me standing in front of her.

—Hey, are you okay? –I asked as I approached her, but I was stopped by a nod from her head, indicating that everything was correct.

—We’d better go home. –He said passing me by.

On paper it didn't look like it, but seeing it in person, she had indeed been affected by their encounter. An aura of heaviness and sadness could be felt around her.
I didn't know how to relieve it or make her feel better, so the whole walk home was spent in complete silence.

—We're here! –I announced, only to be greeted by Luchia, Hanon and Rina. –It's true. They were both at the party because they were Luchia's friends. –I thought as our mother introduced us to her two dear friends. –And now that I think about it... Basically, she's telling us that we don't have any friends. –I said to myself.

—Come outside. We're all ready to go! –Luchia exclaimed with joy.

—Mum, I'm actually quite tired. I think I'm going to go to sleep. –I said to the brunette.

—I understand... Then, happy birthday and sleep tight. –She commented and then kissed my forehead. After that action, I was left alone in the house, accompanied only by a feeling of warmth that flooded me completely.

—It really feels like home… –I whispered, clutching my winged shell locket.
