"Focus, Jack. You're only putting more pressure onto yourself. Calm down...and trust," Randall used his encouraging soft voice as I carefully lit fire around me. It was hard to control, but I controlled it.
"I'm trying," I said flatly, the fire shifting in my grip. "It's hard. Fire isn't exactly the easiest thing to control. You have to really concentrate here."
I brought the fire up and it finally created a dome around us. The air smelled of a crimson burning and it made me smile.
Randall smiled halfheartedly and drew the fire down to the ground and it flared out in every direction.
"Good job, Gree. You're doing better everyday," he said without his encouraging tone. "We've worked on this for a couple of days, I say it's time you can leave." This time he really did smile, "And I assure you I won't have you run out of the door like last time."
He walked me up to the cabin where we stayed the nights and motioned for me to walk through. I opened the door and step in, entering the training dome. The other Alliots stepped out simultaneously along with me. We exchanged glances.
Beside me, Ly looked exhausted, Tommy rubbed a hand down his sweaty head, Zane put his hands on his hips, Nia coughed wildly, Kyle leaned back against the door and sighed, and Sam sneezed. I frowned. "Training?" Everyone groaned.
Piers suddenly burst into the room, "Alliot! Wonderful to see you again, it was a pleasure waiting those longing five minutes. Welcome back..." Piers clapped his hands together looking for something else to say. "Oh! Yes! Super is waiting for you in his office. It would be...ah great deal if you met with him." And then he left. He seemed frightened about something but I didn't want to think about it.
Kyle started first for the door and then everyone followed. We reached Super's office quicker than usual. We all hoped he wasn't delivering bad news. Super exited the secret bookcase door and wore a terrible expression.
"Alliot... I'm afraid we have bad news," Super said scratching his beard. He seemed anxious about something. "Someone broke into the South Wing a few months ago when you were touring the jBots."
"That's why there was a hole? You mean, you didn't make that?" Kyle asked subtly. He ran a hand down his face frustratingly.
Super frowned, "I don't know how they managed to get it or even find the location. But some threats were given to us. They found lots of valuable stuff that can't be put in the wrong hands." He shook his head. "I don't know what we're gonna do."
I ran a hand through my hair and sighed. "Is there ever an end to this nonsense?" Tommy asked bitterly, reading my exact thought.
"Well, it's simple," Hazzy said as she analyzed the problem. "We figure out who did it, catch the jerk and turn 'em in."
"It's simple," Super agreed, "but not that simple. We have no one here who has a motive."
"Well, no one that we know of," I blurted.
"Do you have an idea, Jack?" Super asked, eyeing me. I instantly regretted opening my mouth.
"No, she's right," Ly agreed. "People can lie. They can manipulate us. I've seen it happen before. More times than you can imagine. Once we find a liar, we catch the fucker red handed and take 'em down."
Zane nodded and Tommy grinned at Ly's word choice. I smiled, at least I knew someone was on my side. Or it was just me overreacting again as usual, but I would never know. Super rubbed his chin and skimmed through another one of his old books again. I adjusted my glasses and ran a hand through my hair. Finally I had broke the habit of pulling my hair to the side. I was getting use to the short hair and I was beginning to actually like it. It now reached to my shoulders, a nice length for putting it up and keeping it out of my eyes.
"Ly, I admire your optimism, but please, mind your language," Super said after he finished skimming. He looked up at all of us and frowned. "We have a liar among us, Alliot. We are being played by one of our own."
Tommy sighed dramatically and Sam leaned backwards. I itched my nose and the rest of Alliot sat in silence. There was a knock on the door and Super almost jumped. He grunted and gave permission to the knocker. Piers stepped through the door slowly and awkwardly.
"Hate to interrupt, but...uh we have a code 891 in East Wing, Level 2," Piers looked over to us where we sat and waved halfheartedly. Then he looked back to Super who was looking very upset.
"891?" Zane asked, breaking the silence.
"Fighting," Nia replied. "Against who?" she asked Piers.
"Uh...Denver and an agent."
"An agent?" Super said with shock. My eyes grew wide.
"Yeah," Piers said agreeing with the surprise.
"Well let's get a move on then!" Super said, wheeling out of the desk and out of the door almost running Piers over. Alliot and I stood quickly and followed Super out the door.
