It wasn't till Alliot and I were standing in front of the old Walmart when I realized that it could be my last moments on Earth. Ly squeezed my hand gently. I knew she felt as much fear as I did. We had met up with everyone else by the Pharmacy. Agents crowded around us. Hopefully, Piers wouldn't end up spotting us in the sea of green uniforms and flat brimmed war-hats.

The idea of staying back at SOSA was still fresh in my mind. I didn't want to be there. My mind wished I was still laying on the picnic blanket with Ly. I wished it was snowing outside and my eyes were full of mercury. But that was over. That was then. This was now. Draos was coming back. He was going to kill a lot of people. It was happening. I couldn't stop or help it.

"Now what?" Kyle asked, scratching the back of his head. "Anyone know where we're going?" Suddenly, Ly's phone rang. She let go of my hand and pulled it out of her pocket. Her face went white as she saw the caller ID. "What?"

"It's Denver," her voice said shakily. She hit the answer button. We all clamored together to hear what she had to say.

"Heeey Allliiotttt," Denver almost snarled. "We're almost ready. In the back room. I'd expect you to be here in prolly ten minutes. Be there! Toodles!"

The line went dead.

"How did she know we were here?" Sam asked, rubbing his palms together nervously.

"There," Hazel said, pointing at a security camera above us.

"Great," someone muttered.

"We have to find Denver," I said, looking around for an exit to the back room.

"You found Denver?" A familiar voice said.

No, no, no, I thought. The plan was failing. I turned. Piers was behind us with his arms crossed. He wore the same uniform as the rest of his agents. Seeing him without his usual tuxedo was...weird. We were all used to just seeing him in his silly businessman get up and then here he shows up looking ready for war. I closed my eyes, hoping he would go away and let us continue our plan to do it alone.

When I opened them I saw Piers call someone on his radio. "Yep, I found them. Not surprised. Yes, sir. No, sir. They did find her." He looked back at our shocked faces. "Don't worry. We knew you'd come. It's not something we'd keep you away from. Super although...he's a bit disappointed. Now, where is Denver?"

"The back room," Jack said quietly. She adjusted the obviously tight collar around her neck. Sweat dripped down her forehead. "She said she was there."

"I still can't believe she's actually trying to bring him back," Kyle murmured.

Ly narrowed her eyes. "I can't believe you're surprised she's doing it." Kyle rolled his in return. He obviously wasn't her favorite person in the world.

"Calm down," I said, breaking both of their gazes. I could almost feel the rough tension between the two. What was going on with them?

"Let's go find that back room," Piers said, creating lighting around his hands.

Nia stepped forward. "Piers, I know you want to help, and let's face it you're probably a better Element than all of us combined, but...we have to do this on our own. That's why we came alone and—"

He held a hand up. "I understand, Natalia. You do as you must. But please, please, call if you need back up. I'll do as much distracting as I can. You guys can do it." He smiled widely.

I almost shivered. How could he be smiling in a situation like this? I shook my head inwardly, not knowing the answer. Rhetorical question, I thought, pushing all the things holding me back from taking another step aside. "C'mon," I said, "we can't keep 'em waiting."
