┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄The room broke into chaos. There were muttered curses from all around, harsh gasps and startled shrieks. My line of sight blurred immediately, limbs going invisible. Every time, I only half thought, my mind more or less preoccupied with other matters.
Draos was coming back.
He was coming back, and he was coming for us. I looked up at my team, at the people we've become.
Zane's eyes were glued to the now blank screen. He watched it as if it would turn on any second and call it all off, claim it was just a joke and return to the news or a kids cartoon. He seemed so lost. Beside him was Hazzy, eyes squeezed shut and arms clutching her stomach. Jack had a hand on Hazzy's shoulder, but her eyes were on Super, intent and awaiting command. Ly was glaring with a certain malice, fists clenched at her sides. She looked murderous. Nia just looked terrified. Tommy was beside me, face blank and eyes downcast.
"Any of us could die, you know," he said, looking over in my direction. A small smile found its way onto my face, and, in a rash decision, I grabbed his hand.
"I know," I said. My skin fluttered back to vision. He half smiled back, but I could see it- the doubt behind his eyes. Over his shoulder I saw Kyle pacing, murmuring frenzied curses under his breath. For once, I let my mind slip from him. This was about all of us. I couldn't focus on one individual- we were a team. "But we can do this. Alliot- Savers of the Earth. Has a nice ring to it."
"As you have probably guessed, this is of pressing matter," Super said calmly. Despite his calm and collected speech pattern he looked downright frazzled. "I... must be going. Piers, you as well. The Elders will wish to be informed. Alliot, we shall discuss this further, but I have planned on informing you of our current strategy. As it is now, SOSA's staff members will be split up. Half will stay here to protect the students and half to combat Draos. I expect you eight to stay here."
"But Super, sir!" Jack called in protest. "We have been training for this. Wouldn't it make sense for us to help?"
"Jocelyn Gree you will stay here. You are too valuable to be lost during the first mission, our chances of saving the planet will decrease by the tenfold," Super said. "There will be no protesting. You will do as you are told," he finished, "for once." With that he wheeled out of the room, eyeing Jack warily.
A silence followed.
"D-D-Draos... holy hell," I said, Tommy's hand still in mine.
"I can't believe he isn't letting us stop him," Jack sighed, shaking her head. "What were we trained for anyways?"
"No, I think he might be right," Nia said. Her voice was small and quiet- something very abnormal for Nia. "We're not good enough. Draos could and would kill any one of us with his pinkie finger. He has to be beat down before we even have a chance. What we need to do for now is rest, maybe grab a bite to eat. If we are going to do anything, it needs to be at our strongest and his weakest."
"Food sounds nice right now," I said, nodding my head. Tommy sighed next to me, finally pulling his hand away from mine.
"C'mon, guys. Think. Draos' weakest point would be right now. He hasn't gained any power recently, and he is making himself a huge target, coming so close to SOSA," Tommy said.
"Yeah, a huge target. Big red bullseye in the middle. Perfect setup for a team with perfect aim. I mean, really. Doesn't that sound a little trap-y to you?" Hazzy said. She walked away from the computer screen and plopped herself down in one of the leather chairs littering Super's office.
