Liam headed back to the forest the very next day. His original focus had gotten sidetracked by what he saw in the woods the previous day. What the hell was that? was the question that plagued his brain the entirety of the school day, only strengthened by the horrified looks he got when he showed people the picture.
His first focus for that day was for any clothing item of Henry's that could hint at the chance that he was still there.
He followed the red marks he had put the previous time to where he encountered that deer-like creature. He saw hoofprints where the creature stood the previous time and he took a picture as evidence he didn't just see a deer that happened to be on its hind legs.
He began walking ahead, marking each tree he passed by with the red chalk.
Liam eventually walked deep enough that he could barely see what was directly in front of him. The canopy of the trees and the fog were too thick and the light from his flashlight didn't help much.
He soon felt the sensation that someone was watching him. It made him grow a little bit paranoid.
The feeling never went away, even as he continued deeper into the forest. He soon began to hear small chittering noises from behind him, making him turn around a couple times.
Liam suddenly felt like someone, or something was staring at him.
"Is anybody here?"
Liam tried to use his flashlight to reveal the thing that was looking at him. But the fog reflected the light right back at him.
Crack!
Liam spun around, bracing himself for what he might see next.
But it was only a hare.
He realized that the hare didn't look normal. Unlike the deer he saw, it wasn't eerily wiry and humanoid. It was green.
He took a picture.
"That's weird," Liam thought aloud to himself. He crouched down to try and get closer. It surprisingly didn't run off, it's bright green eyes looking at him curiously.
Liam reached out to pet it, he knew he probably should since it was a wild hare but he felt like he should. Plus, it seemed to be receptice to the touch.
"You're very soft," Liam said to the hare gently, scratching it behind the ears. He was surprised at how soft it was, considering the fact it was a wild hare.
A soft cracking noise made the hare perk its ears up and dash away in the direction of the sound.
Liam stood up once the hare was out of sight, realizing he should probably go home now. It was late after all.
The Green Hare watched from a distance, intrigued that a human he used to know had gone searching for him this deep into the forest.
