Henry had never considered himself an envious person. Sure, he would feel jealous over his friends' normal families and lack of constant physical pain, but he never showed it. He already knew that doing so would bring unwanted consequences. He was struggling enough, he didn't need anything else to add on top of it.
However, no matter how much he tried to push it down, his jealousy always rose up again and again. It was exhausting. Sometimes, he felt that being a forest animal would be preferable over the looming pressure of getting out of Rosemeadow as fast as possible. Even a hare's life wo.uld have less anxiety than his.
Going to his friends' homes was his only way to leave his family's "work". The only thing keeping a roof over his head otherwise. It was tough. Especially since Jake left, leaving him with only two safe spaces outside of school.
Ironic huh, being green with envy?
