"He seems very protective over you. Was he always like that?"
—You had finally convinced Jay to let Abby visit you, because you were bored. You still couldn't leave so you had annoyed him long enough and done more stupid escape attempts, until he finally relented and let someone come keep you company.
She walks out of the elevator and you immediately give her a hug. She turns around and say thank you to the guys who brought her up, before walking in with you. As she sits on the kitchen counter while you prepare some snacks she looks to the side noticing the guys had walked in after her, she looks at them confused as they just find a spot by the wall and stand there.
"Just ignore it, they're always there." You say, when you see her staring at the guys confused.
"You got no privacy?" She asks you, concerned. You shrug, not really bothered by it anymore.
"Nah. Well, they don't follow me into our room."
"Well at least you have somewhere to yourself." She says and you stay quiet. "Wait... you said "our room"... What does that mean? You share a bedroom with him?" She laughs like you just said wrong.
You don't look at here you just roam the kitchen looking for what you need to finish the snack you were making.
"You sleep with The Joker!?" She then exclaim in question, looking at you with wide eyes. You jump slightly at the sudden exclamation, but don't react much.
"Depends on what kind of sleeping you're referring to." You tell her.
"I'm referring to the kind where you don't really sleep." She asks you, and looks at the guys by the wall. They don't give a reaction at all, which makes her frown.
"Then no, I don't sleep with him." You answer.
"But you sleep in his bed?" She asks.
"Mhm." You confirm.
"Next to him?"
"Mhm."
"Is it like.. you sleep as far away on your side.. or do you sleep all cuddled up together."
You stay silent, confirming the last.
"Wow." She breathes out and leans back in the barstool at the kitchen counter.
"It's nothing new, we used to sleep like that before as kids, whenever he stayed over." You tell her, trying to brush it over.
"Your mom let you do that?"
"She was our biggest shipper." You chuckle. "But we were young anyway so it was never like that."
"But what about now? You're not kids anymore." She says and you slightly tens at her question. Not wanting to let her know how good it actually feels to be close to the person you loved and lost, a man you might start to actually love again. As much as you try not to, which you're doing a poor job at.
"Now.. nothing." You tell her, trying to sound convincing.
"And do you want it to be?" She asks and you look up at her in surprise.
"What?" You look at her confused. "Of course not. I'm mad at him."
"You're still mad?"
"Still mad!? He let me think he was dead, that he killed himself, Abby! And then he tells me to leave the moment he sees me again after years, and when I refuse to listen he kidnaps me to keep me locked up in this tower."
"To protect you." She says and you scoff. Disbelief clear on your face. Abby was the one most concerned when she found out, well, except for Sophia who passed out.
"Protect me.. Well he lost that right a long time ago." You huff.
"He seems very protective over you. Was he always like that?" She asks you.
"Yeah.. When we were kids, I was very impulsive and reckless. And naive.." You tell her.
"Sounds like he had some work cut out for him then." She chuckles, and you roll your eyes.
"I guess, but I'm not that naive little kid anymore." You tell her and she gives you an unconvinced look, making you groan and slung your head back.
"I think you should let him off the hook, he's just doing what he can to protect you. And since you don't leave-" She says and you interrupt her.
"He could easily make me leave the city, it's just a matter of time. I'm trying to enjoy my work here for as long as I can." You say.
"I don't think he wants you to leave anymore." She says and you look at her unconvinced.
"Yes he does. He threatens with it all the time if I don't do what he says. He keeps me here, locked up, and refuse to let me enjoy anything."
"To protect you." She says and you groan, throwing your head back in annoyance. "He just seem to wants what's best for you."
"Why on earth are you defending him!?" You all but shout at her.
She shrugs in answer and starts eating the snack you put out on the counter. You sigh deeply and change the subject.
