"I'm nice! I'm telling them I'm not gonna kill them. That's nice!"
-You come to, and find yourself in bed with your head on Jays chest.
"How long have I been out?" You mumble with a yawn, leaning up trying to sit up, but wince in pain.
"Just the car ride and you've laid here for only an hour. You need more, go to sleep." He tells you and tug your head back down on him as he goes back to reading his book.
"Where are my friends?" You ask.
"Just down stairs."
"I have to go to them." You lean up again, clutching your bandaged stomach, but Jay stops you.
"No, you need to rest." He tells you, pulling you down to rest on him again.
"No, they must be terrified Jay."
"Oh, yes they are." He smiles smugly. You smack his shoulder, but with a small chuckle, finally getting yourself up in an upright sitting position.
"Have you let them get checked out?"
"I gave them a med kit." He shrugs and you turn to him with wide eyes.
"Jay! You didn't bring them to a hospital?"
"You didn't tell me what to do with them so I just put them somewhere."
...
"Yn!" Sophia says when she sees you coming in.
"I'm sorry guys, I fell unconscious before i could tell him you needed to go to a hospital."
"That's okay, we're not hurt, not like you were." Andrew tells you.
"But you have a lot of explaining to do." Abby crosses her arm with a raised brow. You sigh and gesture for them to sit down again on the couch.
"I know." You take a deep breath. "Well.. I live here."
"What?" Andrew and Sophia frown in confusion.
"You live here?" She asks and you nod. "With The Joker?" You nod again.
"Why?" Andrew whispers looking wearily at the guy by the elevator door. "What does he want from you? What should we do to get you out of here. Well, now all three of us. We need to come up with a plan." He says and you shake your head.
"No that's not necessary, you're free to go, you just have to promise to not tell anyone what you saw here today. And not tell anyone that i live here."
"What? We have to get you out of here Yn!" Sophia whispers-shouts. You shake your head again.
"I'm not leaving, I'm not in danger here."
"You can't be serious. What has he done with you, what does he hold against you? Is he doing things to you?" Abby whispers.
"What? No! He's not." You sigh and lean back in your seat. "Okay listen. When I grew up, I had a best friend that died okay." You tell them and they look at you sympathetically, making you roll your eyes. "Yeah so, turns out he didn't die." You say and watch their reaction. They look confused, then their eyes widen and eyebrows fly to their hairlines.
"The Joker was..?" Andrew mumbles.
"Yeah. And when I moved here, he saw me on TV and brought me here." You just tell them not going deep right now. They let the news sink.
"So, you're not in danger?" Abby asks.
"Well, aside from what just happened, yeah." You tell her. She nods slowly looking around wearily.
"I'm gonna make someone drive you home, but it's been a long time since we ate. Why don't we go up and I'll make you something before you leave." You ask, they hesitantly nod.
You gesture for them to follow and they do. You lead them into the penthouse when Jay exclaims, making them jump.
"Ah! Our guests. How lovely. Come, come!" Jay stands up from his seat on the couch and wave them over. You go over with them. Jay tells them to sit but they just stand awkwardly looking around.
His smile falls and he gets a bored look. He snaps his fingers and three guys standing somewhere around the room grab and make them sit down, they get startled at first but sit down.
"Now." Jay sits down and pull you onto his lap. "Yn here, says you'll keep your mouths shut, so I won't kill you." He smirks, you slap his chest with the back of your hand and he chuckles as he watch them shift uncomfortably in their seats.
"Be nice." You mutter.
"I'm nice!" He exclaims looking at you with an offended look. "I'm telling them I'm not gonna kill them. That's nice!" He says and you roll your eyes, shaking your head.
"I'm gonna make something for them before you get them a car to drive them home okay?" You say looking at Jay. He nods, still smiling as he studies his guests. You stand up from his lap and go to the kitchen. There you make some sandwiches and go back to them.
"Lovely!" You hear Jay exclaim happily clapping his hands. You look to see Sophia pale and Andrew with a disturbed look and Abby with a curious look. You hand them a sandwich and ask.
"What did I miss?" You ask them but Jay answers.
"We just talked about what happens to people who break my trust or dare to defy me, doll. Just some light conversation." He says and you sigh disappointed.
"Please don't scare my friends away." You mutter, sitting beside him, taking a bite from your sandwich, and offering him one.
"Don't worry, doll. They won't dare to do anything wrong against you or me after today. I will have people watch them though, because even though you trust them, I don't. I'm not risking them telling anyone what they've seen or know." He then turn his head to you, smile gone. "No one can know about you. I have a hard time keeping you safe as it is, if anyone targets you, I will murder these three then look for whoever is targeting you." He then smirks back at them.
"Stop." You scold in a low voice. "Okay!" You stand up. "They'll take their sandwiches with them and go home now." They all visibly sigh in relief.
"But doll face, I was having fun." Jay pouts. He then shrugs and stand up and leave the room like he doesn't care. You sigh deeply and look at your friends with an apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry about him. Come on, I'll take you to the garage, they'll have a car ready." You take them down and tell them goodbye.
When night comes you lay in bed on your phone until you hear Jay coming into the room. He gets ready for bed and lay down beside you.
"Your friends are boring." He mumbles when he cuddles into you, laying his head on your lap.
"They're okay. I like them." You tell him, starting to stroke his hair.
"You like everyone." He huffs.
Then he looks up at you, just staring at your face. You look into his eyes in question.
"What?"
"Nothing. Just don't do that again."
"Do what?"
"Risk yourself for others."
"I can't promise that."
"You're so stubborn." He says. "You always defend and help everyone, even if they don't want you to."
"I think it's one of my better qualities."
"I don't." He mutters and you chuckle, you play with his still wet hair from the shower for some time. Before you close your eyes you hear him mumble in a whisper. "I need you safe."
"I am when I'm with you." You whisper and close your eyes. You fall asleep not knowing how much that warmed his heart. His mind starts going to more negative and worried thoughts but he fights them and fall asleep content and happy, knowing he has you safe in his arms.
