Two Weeks Later: Summer 2023
Last week Bojan and I had spent in Bosnia with his grandparents. I couldn't deny that I had been nervous about meeting his family. It wasn't just his parents, his grandparents, his sister, and other extended family that would all be there. Bojan had already told me not everyone was fluent in English, so that definitely added to my worries. Add to that me having the tendency to be paranoid about people talking to me behind my back, which they could freely do in a language I couldn't understand. Yeah... I was everything but calm.
Bojan could tell I was feeling off on the car ride there. His hand was on my leg the entire way there and he tried to distract me by striking up conversations about random topics or singing along to the radio, with some attempts being more successful than others.
In the end, all my worries ended up being for nothing. The moment we walked through the door I was embraced by the warmth of his family. They all put in so much effort to make me feel at home. Bojan had to act as a translator for his grandparents, but it all worked out pretty well. The next day his extended family came over for a barbecue, but the rest of the week, it was just us, his parents and sister and his grandparents. I got to try all the homemade food Bojan's mom and grandmother made, we played board games together, Bojan and I went on a hike pretty much everyday. We had completely disconnected from the rest of the world. We had so much fun, I rarely touched my phone for the entire time we were there. The both of us felt reborn once we returned to Ljubljana.

This afternoon I had spent at Bojan's apartment writing new songs before taking Bojan's car to drive to the Joker Out rehearsal space to pick up Bojan and Kris on the way to the airport. Lauren's plane could land any moment now and it had been all I could think about the last few days. Ljubljana was great and I really felt at home, but I didn't know anyone outside of the band and it felt good to have something I could call my own again. Lauren's mom Danielle was also on the plane which only made things that much better. I hadn't seen her in person since meeting Bojan and so much in my life had changed since.
The three of us walked into the arrivals hall where Kris' parents were already waiting. We ended up cancelling the hotel reservation all together with Danielle staying at the Guštins and Lauren staying at Kris' place. But tonight, the lot of us were invited for dinner at Kris' parents place.
The moment the two women walked through the airport doors Lauren and I sprinted towards each other and tightly wrapped our arms around each other. It had only been a little under a month and it wasn't like we weren't used to not seeing each other for a while. But her arriving in Ljubljana and us getting to explore the city together was different from me just getting back home after a trip to LA and the two of us continuing our everyday life. Finally I had my bff back!
Once we finally let go of each other so Lauren could greet the others as well. I saw Danielle walk up to me and just like with Lauren, I instantly hugged her as tight as I could. "I'm so happy you're here." I whispered quietly.
I felt Danielle's hand soothingly run through my hair. "I should thank you for giving me the idea to come here. It's been way too long since I've visited Chantal and Miha." Danielle said before pulling back and cupping my cheeks in her hands. "But it seems like my sister isn't the only woman in my life that I now need to share with a musician from Slovenia, doesn't it?"
I laughed softly and stepped aside so Danielle could properly see Bojan. "I tried my best to fight it." I joked and smiled as I saw Bojan shake her hand and introduce himself. He was smiling as brightly as ever and I could see he already had Danielle wrapped around his finger. Anyone could try to fight liking Bojan, but they'd all end up failing miserably. And I was the lucky woman that could call him my own.
On the way back to the cars Danielle and Bojan were still talking to one another. It was all I could ever hope it would be, not that I expected it to be any different with how I had gotten to know Bojan's seemingly neverending charisma.
Dinner with the Guštin family went by with ease. Miha and I ended up talking about guitars, Lauren and I started going over our plans for the week, and Kris couldn't stop himself from bringing up business and talked about the Dutch shows he was securing for the last leg of the band's 2023 European tour, while Bojan still hadn't run out of stories to tell Danielle.
After dinner I found myself in the kitchen with all the other women, and finally, we were able to have a proper conversation in Dutch. "So what do you think?" I hummed as I looked at Danielle. She told me on the phone that she'd like Bojan no matter what, just because I did, and it definitely seemed like the two got along so far, but I really wanted to know her honest opinion.
Danielle smiled affectionately and I caught her shooting a quick look in Lauren's direction. Something was going on between those two, and I was dying to know what inside information the two had. "He's exactly what Lauren said he'd be." She must've seen the confusion on my face. Somehow, she has always been able to guess just what was going through my mind. "He's different from other guys you dated. Very charismatic and seemed to be genuinely interested in what I was saying no matter the topic of conversation." I couldn't help but chuckle, as it was exactly how I knew Bojan to be. He somehow could be the center of attention and make you feel like all his attention was on you at the same time. And my favourite thing about it, he genuinely remembered everything you told him. "I've seen the way you two look at each other. It's a beautiful thing. And I'm really happy you found someone like that. You deserve nothing less, Eva."
I couldn't help but sigh in relief and tightly wrap my arms around my bonus mom. "I'm really happy you approve of him." I whisper softly.
"Of course honey. I wish he wasn't living so far away from home but I guess it gives me more of a reason to visit more often." Danielle continued.
"Hey, I'm not moving here permanently just yet. It's not even been two months." I laughed before glancing at Lauren. "And you talked about Bojan with Dani?" I added and dramatically covered my chest with my hands as if she had betrayed me.
"Mmm, I remember Chantal saying the exact same thing and then ending up leaving us a month later." Danielle joked. "Don't blame Lauren, I called her after you told me you wanted me to meet him. At that time I knew you were serious about him and I had to find out if he was as serious about you." I playfully rolled my eyes at Danielle's comment. Lauren and her mom were practically the same person and I shouldn't have been that surprised about Danielle stalking him the moment she knew he was more than just a fling. The two of them liked to gossip more than anyone I knew.
"So it takes Eva possibly moving here to get you to visit more?" Chantal laughed in return before placing her hand on my lower back. "If you ever want to talk about what it's like, or if you need any tips or just someone to talk to you're always welcome here."
"Thank you, but really, I'm not throwing my life around after knowing a guy for barely two months. Not that he's just a guy. I love him, and I can see a future of the two of us, but you don't have to worry about me leaving you guys just yet." We were gonna take things slow. Show each other that we could work around the distance. We were gonna do it our way.
