Mackenzie's POV
"WHY are you home this early? Don't tell me your uptight manager finally let loose and made you end your shift before time" Jayden said coming from his room and you could tell he just woke up.
I shut the door with a loud bang and threw myself on the couch "I wish" I commented with a loud sigh.
"Did he refuse to give you a raise even after all your hard-work?" He threw a popcorn into his mouth while coming from the kitchen.
"With whatever that happened tonight I'll be so lucky to even stand at the entrance of the restaurant" I facepalmed.
"Mmm...what happened" He chewed the popcorn so hard like it was bouncy. I blinked several times looking at him eat it that way.
Who chews popcorn like that?
"So I went to work today and..." His loud munch on the popcorn made me stop speaking "Must you crunch on your popcorn like that? I'm trying to tell you what happened today" I complained frustratedly
"I don't know why but this popcorn tastes so good today" He looked at me "Okay fine I'll listen" he said after the look on my face
I ended up telling him whatever that happened whilst chomping on the popcorn with him.
He was right, it tasted so good today
"Really?" He inquired when I finished talking
I looked at him unsure of what to do. I wanted to smack his face, bite his ear off or maybe kick him off the couch
I've said so many things and that's all he's got to say?
"Are you serious right now. After everything I said won't you try to console me or even give me encouraging words as a normal cousin would do?"
"Oh!" He muttered and still didn't moved
I kicked him so hard and his body thud against the floor. He laughed and moved from the floor to hug me
"I'm so sorry. You will be fine by tomorrow" I could still hear his laughter when he spoke
"I don't know what this is but I won't call it encouragement"
"So what happened after you spilled the food on this fine looking man" Jay pulled away from the hug and sat back on the couch
"How about I continue over a bowl of popcorn" I suggested with raised eyebrows
"Good idea" He gave me a high five and we moved to the kitchen. I took two cans of drink from the fridge as he put the bag of corn in the microwave "So, do tell" Jayden said after he put the bowl of popcorn on the counter
"Immediately I looked at him, I knew I was as good as dead. This guy snatched his coat off the chair and went rushing downstairs. I run to follow him and I was so unlucky because the manager had come out of his office that moment and saw this fine looking man angrily rushing to the door. He didn't even stop when the manager asked him if he was okay" I took a big gulp of the drink
"So?"
"So the manager asked me and I considered fabricating something. Then I also thought I would be in deep trouble if I do that and I still needed my raise...so I did what would be the best thing for me"
"What did you do?" He asked curiously
"Of course I lied! I told him the man blamed me for changing his order and got so mad that he threw the food away making it stain his clothes and shoe" I explained
"Way to go girl" He said in amusement
"I wish there really is a way for me to go because after I explained everything, the manager became so desperate and told me to clock out. I'll be losing my job sooner or later"
