Mackenzie's POV
"WOW! This looks amazing" I looked around the restaurant in astonishment. We sat at our table and everything was perfect, from the decorations to the atmosphere
"I'm glad you like it" Dante smiled at me. A waitress brought the menu but Dante ordered for us both. It was an Italian restaurant which brought memories of the last time he took me to one before we got married.
At that time, I saw him to be suffocating my life and giving me a hard time but today, I saw a man I was happy to be with. There was no dull time when I was with him and I felt lucky to have met him
We made small talks until our food was brought and I can't say it was better than his cooking but it was okay. I was so hooked on his food that, anything else tasted foreign and bland to me
We finished dessert quickly too before he asked me to dance with him. We were on the rooftop which looked like he had booked the whole place for the night.
"But there's no music" I laughed and he shrugged
"I'll just sing a song in my head and you follow my lead with the dance"
"You can sing?"
"I'm not mute Carina" he raised an eyebrow
"I'm not saying you are" I laughed heartily before he pulled me from my seat. His hand came around my waist and mine around his shoulder as we held our hands and started to dance
"Take your heels off and step on my feet" he said after I couldn't get in tune with him
"We should have done this the first time instead" I muttered and stepped on his feet after I took my heels off
"Yeah we should have so why couldn't your little brain think about that?" he jabbed my temples lightly and I laughed "Congratulations Carina" he whispered slowly and bent down to take my lips in his mouth
It started out slow and I thought he would deepen it but he kept it at a leisurely pace like he was savoring every second of this evening. He held me close and kissed me until we came back for air. I looked into his eyes and he looked into mine. Everything was flawless and like a dream...I felt peace and satisfaction
"I love you" I said before I could stop myself. He stiffened and released me. He said nothing for minutes just staring at me with no expression "Did you hear me? I said I..."
"You can't...you don't"
"I do" my feelings were out now so I might as well justify them
"No you don't! You don't know what you're taking about. You're only saying that because I'm the only man who isn't your family and is treating you well. You just have a feeling of gratitude and not..."
"Do not define what I feel for you. No one knows my feelings better than me. I know exactly how and what I feel for you" I went to touch him but he pushed away from me
"I have to go back. I have a business trip" he said
"You just came back from one" I looked at him and he wasn't meeting my eyes "When are you leaving?"
"Tonight"
"Okay, we'll talk about this when you're back" Maybe a little space would help clear his mind to make him believe that I really love him
"I don't know when I'll be back. It's going to take a while"
"It doesn't matter, I'll wait for you because I love you"
"But I don't!" He screamed and my heart shattered
"T-that isn't true" I shook my head "You made me feel..."
