Mackenzie's POV
"OH my God! You're such a funny little girl" the white haired woman laughed and wiped a tear off her eye
She was so beautiful even with all the grey hair. She was just as tall as Mr Moretti but I can tell that was the only thing he inherited from her seeing as he didn't look a little bit like her. I swear she has a body of a model and she puts my petite self to shame
Can a mother be this pretty after so many years?
"Sorry Mrs Moretti for being a burden" I said after her laughter died down. She and I have been talking non stop after we got here. Mr Moretti had gone about making phone calls as always and I wasn't really bothered because talking to his mom was fun. Every time I came around successful women like her, they make me happy and goal-driven
"Oh come on darling, you aren't. Dante already informed me he'd be bringing someone and if anything I'm happy you're here. They always say the more the merrier right?" She smiled broadly and I was happy to see how genuine she was "I always spend Christmas with my two daughters and if you tagging along would make Dante visit his old mother then I'm more than happy"
"Oh Mrs Moretti, you're anything but old" I complimented and she smiled
"Now talking about my daughters. Where are they, Luigi? They were supposed to be here hours ago and I asked Ambra to stay back but she just wouldn't listen" she looked back at me after speaking to the man beside her, probably a butler "Sorry about that darling, a mother can't help but get worried about her children. Ambra is my last baby and she twisted her leg in a football game at school but she still didn't listen to me when I told her to sit back and relax"
She smiled fondly even when she complained about her children. I felt a little pang of sadness but I couldn't dwell on it longer when the door opened to reveal two young girls. One a little older than I am and the other a teenager
"Hi my beautiful mom!" The older girl sat the shopping bags on the table beside her and helped the younger one with a clutch underneath her arm to sit on the couch. She took her sunglasses off and looked at her mom and then at me. It wasn't hard to spot me since I was standing by her mom. My heart skipped a beat when she blankly stared at me. It would be terrible if she didn't like me because I can't stay married to Mr Moretti if his family hated me and tolerating hatred for six months..?
I'm not built for that
"Elerra Moretti! You were supposed to be here hours ago. Look how tired your sister is" Mrs Moretti fumed pointing to the teenager sitting on the couch
"Wow! And who must you be?" the older girl ignored her mom and walked to me
"That's Dante's guest" Mrs Moretti answered in my favor
"Dante's guest!?" She asked in a voice filled with surprise and amusement "First off, Dante brings no woman home so I was shocked when he called yesterday to tell us he'd be bringing a guest and I thought maybe it wasn't real. Secondly, I'm blown away to know that he meant it and it's you..." she looked at me like she was inspecting me for an experiment
Do I look bad?
I outdid myself to look good today but looking at his family now, I feel like I didn't try enough. They were all so good looking, their dresses and personalities were perfect compared to mine. I even made an effort to brush my hair today despite the tangles and knots in them and I wore a simple black low v-cut dress with a cut on one side of the dress which exposed my thigh
