I'M BACK BABY

Idk how long for, but I'm back for now

I'm sitting against the wall of the cave, my knees held to my chest, wrapped in the blanket of my bedroll as I desperately fight to keep out the chill. Shifting slightly, I push my drenched hair out on my eyes as I watch the rest of the company set up camp in the small cave they had found to shelter from the torrential rains. Being the only girl, they had insisted I sit down and warm up while they sorted everything out. Well, not everyone, just Fili and your brother, Bofur.

My eyes flit to Bofur, watching as he helps calm the ponies, who were whinnying and frightened by the storm. Another crack of lightning, followed by a roar of thunder, draws my eyes to the mouth of the cave where Fili stands watch, not that anything would be able to get through this downpour. As if sensing my gaze on him, he turns to look at me, smirking as he meets my eyes. I hold his gaze for a moment before looking back at the growing fire, my cheeks flushing pink.

Having grown up with them, I was quite close with Fili and Kili, but my feelings for the blonde were a recent development. It had started at the beginning of our journey to Erebor when he was being gentlemanly and always making sure I was okay and comfortable. At first, I thought it was just him being overprotective because I'm a girl, but when he fought goblins alongside me, rather than for me, it changed my view of it. I smile a little to myself as I watch the fire dance until my view is obscured by a body sitting in front of me.

"Come on, Bo. I was enjoying that." I pout at my brother.

Bofur just shrugs, grinning at me. "I saw you watching Fili earlier," he teases.

My cheeks flush again and I hide the bottom of my face behind my knees. "Shut it."

He laughs, before finally noticing my wet hair and drenched clothes. His amused expression morphs into concern as Fili walks over too. "You're gonna get sick if you don't change out of your wet clothes," the blonde warns.

"My spares are soaked too," I mumble, my eyes meeting his.

"You can borrow mine," He offers with a smile.

"No, it's okay, I'll be fine," I protest gently. "You need them."

"Suit yourself," Fili shrugs, his eyes lingering on my face for a moment before subtly dropping to my lips as he walks away.

Bofur smirks and rolls his eyes, standing up and following Fili to the fireside.

Two days later, I'm regretting not taking Fili up on his offer. I can't live five minutes without sniffling and shivering.

"Stupid cold," I mumble, crossing my arms over my chest as I sit under a tree when we stop for lunch. Fili, grinning, eases to the ground beside me.

"I hate to say I told you so, but..." He smirks, looking over at me.

"Go on, say it."

"I told you so." I roll my eyes.

"Alright, I admit it. I made a dumb decision. I was wrong." I huff at his amused expression.

Upon seeing me shiver again, he removes his coat and wraps it around my shoulders, pulling me into his side to keep me warm. I'm thankful my cheeks are red because I'm sick, so I don't look any different when I blush.

I force myself to pull away from him, despite wanting to curl into his side.

"I don't want to get you sick," I mumble in response to his concerned look.

"I don't care." He replies, pulling me closer again.

I give in and lean against his side, making him smile. He wraps his arms tighter around me, holding me to his side. Bofur catches my gaze and smirks. I glare at him.

Unbeknownst to me, while my attention is on my brother, Fili can't seem to keep his eyes off me. His gaze is on my lips as I pout at my brother's silent teasing.

That night, we are all seated around the fire as Bombur serves supper. I'm already wrapped in my blanket, only my hands sticking out to hold my bowl. Being sick has taken my appetite, so by the time everyone else is done, my bowl is still mostly full. Fili sits beside me again, a look of gentle concern in his soft blue eyes.

"You okay?"

"Mmh."

"Promise?"

"Mmh."

"Come on, I need a real answer."

"I'm fine."

His eyes drop to my lips for a brief moment before lowering further to my bowl, which is still in my hands. "You really need to eat."

"I'm not hungry, and I feel like I'm going to be sick if I force myself to eat any more."

His concerned eyes study me for a moment, before dropping to the bowl again. "Well, if you're not going to eat it, I will." He moves to reach for the bowl, but I move it away.

"Normally I'd let you, but I'm sick."

"I don't care."

"No, seriously, Fili. I don't want you to get sick." I insist, lifting my head and meeting his gaze, my fringe blowing into my face in the light evening breeze.

"I don't care, (N/n)," He murmurs again, brushing my hair out of my eyes. His touch is almost tender as his fingers brush my skin, his eyes dropping to my lips and lingering there.

"Fil-" He cuts off what would've been another protest by pushing his lips to mine, and I freeze, my heart leaping in my chest. It only takes me a moment to fully register what's happening, but by the time I do, he's already pulling away. My cheeks are flushed as I gaze up at him.

"See? I. Don't. Care," He repeats with a gentle smile, his cheeks flush as if he hadn't expected the kiss either.

I hand the bowl over and bury my face in my hands to hide my bright red cheeks, making Fili and everyone else, who had all watched the scene unfold, chuckle. Fili rests the bowl on the log beside him and pulls me into his side, kissing the top of my head. I don't resist this time, leaning into him almost immediately.

"See, that wasn't so hard, now was it, amrâlimê?" He teases, his voice low and soft as he murmurs to me.

I was expecting this to be shorter than it turned out to be, but I'm really happy with how this turned out.

This was an idea I've had recently and I was really eager to write it.

I hope you enjoyed it

And as always, requests are open if you want me to write anything
