Chapter 40

Kimberly's pov__________________

It was the next morning. Stefan, Damon, and I sat in Elena's room watching her sleep and waiting for her to wake up. We closed the curtain so she wouldn't burn.

It wasn't long before she woke up, gasping as she looked around scared. 

"Stefan? Kim?"

"Hey. We're right here" Stefan said. "You've been in and out for hours"

"W-What happened?"

"You were in an accident" I told her. 

"Oh my god. Matt, is he?--"

"Alive? Ask Stefan. The hero" Damon said pissed off that Stefan saved Matt first like Elena wanted him to do last night. 

Elena looked at him for answers. "He's fine"

"Thank you. I thought that I... how did you?.."

"Save you? He didn't" Damon said to her. 

"When Jeremy brought you to the hospital before all this happened your injuries were worse than anyone knew. Meredith Fell made a choice. She used Damon's blood to heal you" Stefan said.

"And when Rebekah ran Matt's truck off the road,  you had vampire blood in your system" Damon added.

Elena had tears in her eyes. "Oh, my god. Does that mean that I... am I dead?" When we didn't respond she panicked. "No. No. No, that wasn't supposed to happen"

"Maybe it doesn't have to. I talked to Bonnie, she's stronger than ever. There may be something she can do" 

"No, the only thing that's going to help is for you to feed and complete the transition" Damon said.

"We have all day before she has to feed, Damon. A day to exhaust every possible way out" Stefan glared at him.

"Stefan, there is no way out" I tell him. "Do you really think any of us wanted to be vampires? No. There was no way out for us, why would there be any for her?" 

"We all know the drill. You feed or die. There is no door number three" Damon said.

"I was ready to die. I was supposed to die. I don't want to be--I can't be a vampire... If there's something Bonnie can do, we have to try" Elena said.

"We will. We'll try everything" Stefan said remaining hopeful. But Damon and I knew better. 

"Your choice, Elena. As always" Damon said getting up and walking out of her room.

"I'll leave you two alone for a minute" Stefan got up and followed Damon. 

"Elena... I'm so sorry, I didn't think Rebekah would actually do it" 

"It's not your fault, it's hers" She cried again. "Kim. I don't want to be a vampire" 

I sat down next to her and brought her into a hug. "I know you don't, but then again, none of us wanted to either"

"I know... what happened to Elijah?" Elena asked.

"He left town without me. I had to stay and be with you" 

"Thank you for staying with me" 

"Of course" I said and Elena noticed my ring. 

"Did you and Elijah get married?" She looked up at me. 

"We did" 

"And he still left you here? Isn't he worried about you?"

I shrug my shoulders. "I'm not so sure anymore"
