Ch. 3 A Year?
Darkness, that was the first thing I saw. Nothing but the dark. I couldn't move, couldn't speak, it felt as though I couldn't even breathe. I felt alive though. My heart beating in my chest, very slow but steady.
Suddenly I felt a twitch. It was my right hand, I could move it again, but just barely. My heart beat started to speed up a bit, and I could feel air entering and exiting my lungs. I felt like I was alive again.
I could feel all my mind starting to retake control of my muscles. I wanted to open my eyes but my mind wasn't allowing me to do so yet. I could feel my lips starting to move. I wanted to try to say something, but I couldn't.
I tried to move all my muscles, they felt really stiff, like they haven't moved in a very long time. I started to feel blood rushing to them, to help them start up, to move freely again. I started to move my hand and then my arm. Wait... I don't think my arm is supposed to feel like that. There is something in it. I started to move my other hand toward it to feel what it was, but another hand stopped me.
"You are okay. Just take all of this slowly." Said a nice voice. I've heard it before. I didn't exactly hear it clearly though, my ears where still adjusting.
I started to hear this beeping noise, like you would hear at a hospital... So that's where I am. What happened? How long has it been? I opened my mouth to speak, but that voice stopped me again. "Starlit, take this slow. I warn you right now." The voice was starting to get stricter.
I was panicking for a moment. I felt my body start to shake. But then a hand grasped mine. "You are okay. Don't panic." The voice said again. Seriously, who is that? I've heard the voice, can't remember the name.
I took a deep breath. I couldn't just wait for my eyes to open themselves. I needed to see, to know what's around me, where I am, who the voice is. I took another deep breath and started to open my eyes. At first the light was very faint, but then it hit my eyes and blinded me for a moment, I then quickly closed my eyes to prevent any further damage.
"I told you so." Said the voice.
I tried to speak, I could feel my brain firm up in concentration, "Who... Are... You?" I asked very slowly and very quietly.
"The Doctor," said the voice. The Doctor, what is he doing here? Why is he here?
Then a memory ran through my head. I remember seen a place, not Gallifrey, I believe it was Earth. It was in the spring because I saw flowers blooming and I could hear the birds singing. Then I remember this immense pain surging through my head, like I was connected to something dying. It almost felt like I was dying. The Doctor's face, that was the last thing I saw. Then black just like now.
"Wh...at hap...pened?" I asked him. My mind was hurting a little. It felt like it was still waking up.
"I'll tell you, when you become fully aware of what's around you." He said.
I started to lean forward but he held out his hand and didn't let me go any further. I laid back trying to think of something.
"How... Long... Till... I... Fully... Wake... Up...?" I asked him. It felt like forever saying that sentence aloud.
"It depends, maybe a day. Just relax. Let your mind remember and adjust to its surroundings again." He said. A day?! Huh, no. You better wake up right now mind.
"Why... A... Whole.... Day...?" I asked him, while trying to move a bit, trying to get accustomed to this.
"Because of how long you've been asleep." He answered.
